Damon: “About how long do we have before this evil engulfs the world? Just trying to plan my week.”

The Vampire Diaries comes back to The CW with the rest of my faves (Arrow, The Flash, iZombie, Supernatural), in the beginning of October, and promises to deliver another “big bad” storyline, mixed with its usual snarky humor. Said snarky humor usually come out of the mouth of Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), but sometimes the rest of them get to punch out the one-liners as well, especially Enzo (Michael Malarkey). I hope this season’s baddies led by the Salvatore mommy, Lily (Annie Wersching), with her entourage of crazy witch-vampires, is as fun as last season’s crazy Kai (the talented Chris Wood).

In the trailer, it looks like this posse has taken over Mystic Falls and its up to our eternal teens to stop them in their tracks. There’s fire and blood, with some torture thrown in. I don’t see any sign of Alaric, Matt, or Tyler (Matthew Davis, Zach Roerig, or Michael Trevino), and of course, no Elena (Nina Dobrev), who left the show last season in an eternal slumber. Alaric was wracked with grief because of the loss of Jo. So he probably left town. Elena had urged Tyler to get out of Mystic Falls, and it wouldn’t be the 1st time he jetted. And she told Matt to become a cop, which it looked like he might have done in the last moments of that episode (some time had passed in between of course).

The Vampire Diaries returns Thursday, October 8th on The CW.
