Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, is lining up a new project.
It’s being reported that the actress has entered into negotiations to star in The Forest of Hands and Teeth, an adaptation of author Carrie Ryan‘s New York Times best-selling book of the same name. The movie is set to be written and directed by Kate Maberly, who makes her feature directorial debut on the project.
The Forest of Hands and Teeth is a young adult zombie tale, telling of a time in the future when most of the human race has been stricken by a nasty virus that turns them into cannibals. Williams would play Mary, who longs for the world outside of the fenced-off village of survivors she currently resides in, when she finds herself leading a group of survivors through the dangerous forest in an effort to ensure the survival of the human race.
Here’s a description of the book from its Amazon page:
In Mary’s world there are simple truths.
The Sisterhood always knows best.
The Guardians will protect and serve.
The Unconsecrated will never relent.
And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth.
But, slowly, Mary’s truths are failing her. She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power. And, when the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness.
Now, she must choose between her village and her future, between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?
Maberly is best known as an actress, who has appeared in titles such as The Secret Garden, The Langoliers, Finding Neverland, and more. She also produces The Forest of Hands and Teeth along with The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman.
Williams joining this project is quite interesting. As some of you will recall, the actress was said to be in talks for a movie adaptation of the instant classic video game The Last of Us a little over a year ago now.
We haven’t heard much from the planned movie lately, and judging by the description of this new project, which certainly shares some similarities, she won’t be starring in The Last of Us anymore…if they’re even still planning to make such a movie.
To be continued. Maybe.
