Everyone has heard of the phrase: “all good things must come to an end.” For years, Game of Thrones fans have been tuning in to see medieval action, blood being spilled, and treachery.
HBO has released an official trailer for the final season of the show, which will see Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) face a threat that doesn’t feel and is hard to kill. Check out the trailer below.
The fight for survival begins at the end, with many preparing for all-out war against the White Walkers, who are not only increasing in numbers but also have a living dead dragon on their side. It will be almost impossible for Jon and Daenerys to defeat on their own. Luckily, they’ve got some battle ready allies like Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Greyworm (Jacob Anderson), The Hound (Rory McCann), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), Brienne (Gwendoline Christie), and Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen). Of course, this fight won’t be easy considering that Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) has her own agenda.
But the trailer promises large-scale battles against the dead and their new dragon. And with a year off to work on production, it looks like they will deliver.
The final season will also be just six episodes long, after the first six seasons had ten episodes and the seventh had a seven episode order. But just because it’s a shorter season, doesn’t mean it will be short on epicness. Based on previous reports, these episodes will feel like watching a movie with some episodes clocking in at over an hour long.
Even after all of that, HBO isn’t quite done with Game of Thrones. They are already putting a spinoff series on the fast track to development.
So while one series may come to a close, the story will continue on well after everyone has put down their swords.
The final season of Game of Thrones will start to air on HBO on April 14, 2019.
