Last week on Gotham, Jim (Ben McKenzie) got booted off the force for nothing, by crooked commisioner Loeb (Peter Scolari). He goes to Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), who seems to already know what he wants. But what Penguin wants in return might be too high a price to pay. He visits Bullock (Donal Logue), who is bartending and very wise, spouting it as a blessing in disguise. Then he goes to Bruce (David Mazouz) because he can’t keep his promise, and Bruce kinda tells him that it’s okay to do something bad for the greater good. So Jim does that favor, gets back his badge, and Loeb steps down. Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) is losing it, talking to his evil self in the mirror. Theo and Tabitha Galavan (James Frain and Jessica Lucas) break into Arkham, and bust out some of the most wanted, including Barbara (Erin Richards) and Jerome (Cameron Monoghan). Theo has big plans for them and for Gotham.

And… spoilers for tonight’s episode below.
This episode of Gotham was one “Holy S***!” moment after another. It was one of the craziest episodes of Gotham to date.
It starts out business as usual, with Bruce and Alfred (Sean Pertwee) exploring the batcave. Bruce cannot wait to see what’s inside the ancient computer. So Alfred smashes it. That sucked, but Bruce’s reaction sucked worse, though understandable. Mazouz did a bang up acting job there. It caused a couple of tears for me. Alfred was able to make it up to Master Bruce, and a Batman mythology moment happens. Cue Chris Chalk.
Theo kidnaps the mayor and puts a box on his head, threatening him with a deadly spider. Barbara and Tabitha are getting as thick as whip-happy thieves.
Now to the real crazy of the episode. The Maniax make moves – so named by the gang, represented by the bodies they throw from a roof. They try to fry a bus full of cheerleaders. Jim manages to drive the gasoline-soaked bus away from the fire. But the final act is devastating. Barbara lures Jim away, and the expected happens to Jim (but you can see it affects Barbara), and then the unthinkable happens.
Gotham has never shied away from violence, but this episode went to new heights.
You have to watch. You’re welcome.
The only thing I will say is that the end of the episode makes me love Bullock more than ever, and makes me love Nygma once again. I hope this causes a stretch of sanity for him. It won’t, but one can hope.
Gotham airs Monday nights at 8pm ET on FOX.
