Last week’s The Flash ended with a scream… actually that was me, when I saw the glimpse S.T.A.R. Labs in Earth-2, all shiny and bustling, with its founder Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh), still looking like an evil genius. Squeeee!!!
As for the rest of the episode, the meta of the day was the Sand Demon, dropped into their world by Zoom on a speedster-killing mission. It’s hard for even The Flash to put him down. Garrick tries to explain to an angry Barry (Grant Gustin) who throws him into a containment cell. Stein (Victor Garber) gives everyone an Earth-1/Earth-2 tutorial, but then almost dies. Cisco’s burgeoning power is manifesting more and more. But sh!!! It’s a secret. He even helps them find the kinapped future ex-girlfriend of Barry Allen, Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten). Iris’s (Candice Patton) mother shows back up and wants to see her. What?!?
The Flash 2.3 “Family Of Rogues” review: My favorite villainous family is back! Lisa Snart aka Golden Glider (Peyton List) goes to the S.T.A.R. Lab crew for help. Skeptical, they look to prove she’s not lying. But it seems she’s not. Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) really is working with his really really criminal dad (guest star Michael Ironside), and she can’t figure out why. Their dad abused her horribly, and Leonard always took care of her. She thinks he is being forced into crime. That’s not really his style Lisa!
Barry and Snart still have that deal, where he will be left alone if he doesn’t kill anyone.
There are two other things going on this episode. Iris’s mother is back and proclaiming her daughter needs her (um… she really doesn’t). You expect Iris to revert back to season 1 Iris when she was not cool, but she surprised me. She was shocked, sure, but didn’t have a fit, and forgave her dad almost immediately. Jesse L Martin is a really good crier and really good at playing a dad, so I think I would forgive him anything. That was a rough childhood story (Iris’s childhood). Why is her mom being so persistent?
The other part (less important for this episode, yet more important for later), is the 52 time breaches, and hey… the-biggest-one-is-right-here! Of course it is. Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears) was like E.T every time we saw him, not even catching on to Caitlin’s obvious crush. They stabilized it, but he agreed to stay. Guess who we caught walking on in through it at the end of the episode? You guessed it. We’ll discuss next week.
Back to the Snarts. Turns out that Father-of-the-Year put an explosive inside Lisa, so Leonard would bond with him (oh, and work a job). Cisco immediately looks for the rescue of Lisa, while Barry tries to rescue Snart, by joining the crew. He is almost successful in the ruse, but Daddy dearest doesn’t care, and shoots Barry (don’t worry – he’s ok). Captain Cold looks sorry about that. Well… they have to make him a little more good to be a “legend.”
He is still a bad guy and proves it at the end. But now we know he is a bad guy for a bunch of good reasons.
The cutest couple in America would be Cisco and Lisa. Their chemistry, while not sizzling, is adorable and could get there.
The second cutest couple in America is Barry and Patty. I really cannot take it. She’s kind of awesome.
Not the high adrenaline episode we are used to, but it’s always fun with Captain Cold, even when he is super serious.
And is there anything better than Wentworth Miller’s smirk?
The Flash airs Tuesday nights at 8pm ET on The CW.
