Earlier this month, we got to see the trailer for the Sherlock Special, which will find Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) in Victorian-era London.
All we’ve known so far is that the Special would air around the holidays on BBC One in the UK and PBS Masterpiece in America. Now, more details have been revealed, along with new images. Check it out here below.
Set in the 19th century, the Sherlock Special, titled “The Abominable Bride,” will premiere in the U.S. and the UK on the same date – January 1, 2016 at 9pm ET. This is the first time the show will debut in the U.S. and UK simultaneously (usually here in the U.S. we have to WAIT!!!). The 90-minute special will have an encore broadcast on Sunday, January 10, at 10pm ET.
Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) return as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the acclaimed modern retelling of Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic stories. But now, our heroes find themselves in 1890s London. Beloved characters Mary Morstan (played by Amanda Abbington), Inspector Lestrade (Rupert Graves) and Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs) also turn up at 221b Baker Street.
Sherlock Season 4 is scheduled to go into production in Spring 2016, with the air date still to be determined.
