Last week on Supergirl, Kara (Melissa Benoist) learned a lesson and taught a lesson. Her sister Alex (Chyler Leigh) taught her that she needs to learn to fight if she was going to fight people stronger than she was. She had to be smarter about it. She demonstrated this using Kryptonite. Cat (Calista Flockhart) threatened James’s (Mehcad Brooks) job if he did not get her an exclusive interview with Supergirl. Cat dispenses some good advice to Kara. And Kara, in turn, helps James figure out that he can be his own man, and that they were all “stronger together.” Winn (Jeremy Jordan) and James find out that the other knows. Kara’s Aunt Astra (Laura Benanti) tries to get her niece to join her, but is prepared to destroy her if necessary of she gets in her way. Alex gives Kara the gift of her own “Fortress of Solitude.” And Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) has evil red eyes.

Spoilers below.

Supergirl 1.3 “Fight Or Flight” recap/review: James (really Kara) hooked Cat up. The interview has begun, and Cat is good. She asks if she had a day job. Um… Kara inadvertantly let it out that she and Superman were cousins. Exclusive!

Kara: “She’s like a super interviewing villain!”

She sure is. But that little tidbit brought out Reactron, Superman’s foe. James tries to convince her to call her cousin for help, but she’s her own woman.

Peter Facinelli finally gets a real scene! Maxwell Lord acts the hero, volunteering as a hostage when Reactron pops by.

The DEO does not want to get involved. But Alex can’t let her little sister down, and with the help of her and Winn, she tracks Reactron down. She released Lord, but got in a bit of a jam. So Superman saved her. And for some reason, Lord said that Superman saved him. What is his endgame? Kara is pissed that James pressed the “S” signal on his watch. Personally, I think she needed to be saved. She passed out!

Cat has a party to launch her exclusive issue. She dances with Maxwell Lord – with their feet and words. He and Cat are the most intriguing characters on the show.

The party is crashed as all parties with supervillains are, and she has to face Reactron again. Red Eyes Hank Henshaw ends up helping too. Enemy or friend? I cannot wait to find out.

The sister bonding is really great on this show. They do a nice job of mixing normal life and superhero life.

The episode was well done once again. This show, in the same way as The Flash, manages to mix supervillains and light fun together quite nicely.

A few things:

– As in all Superman movies, it is completely unbelievable that no one recognizes Kara as Supergirl.

– Clark Kent is in the 21st Century.

– Jenna Dewan-Tatum

Intrigued?
