Last week on Gotham, with Mayor Galavan (James Frain) in jail, Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) hires an assassin, who sends man after man to kill Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), while he is at the Galavans with Barnes (Michael Chiklis). Bruce (David Mazouz) turns to Silver (Natalie Ann Lynd) for info. Selina (Camren Bicondova) brings proof that she’s a liar. Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) helps Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) cope with his despair, and they celebrate with murder. The monks arrive to town.
Spoilers below.
Gotham 2.10 “The Son Of Gotham” recap/review: A woman is mugged and is about to be killed when the criminal disappears. His throat is slit by the monks.
“The day of reckoning is at hand.”
It is Park’s funeral and Jim is really torn up, visits Galavan, who seems confident he will go free. Lee tries to comfort Jim, but he really blames himself for following the law, and not taking out the cannibal when he had the chance.
Barnes doesn’t want Jim on the Galavan case anymore. Everyone thinks it’s done, except him and now Bullock (Donal Logue). Seems Galavan try to buy an old defunct monk abbey last week.
The monks kill again – 5 career criminals. By the time Jim and Harvey get there, bloody scantily clad women are running out of there.
Jim and Bullock go down into the sewers to follow the monks path. And find one. What will they do? Their plan almost works.
Lee interrupts a funny mundane phone convo between Nygma and Penguin about the toilet. She thinks it’s Ms. Kringle. Nygma says she ran away with Dougherty, and pretends to cry. Penguin calls back. These guys could have their own spinoff a la The Odd Couple and I would certainly watch.
Selina and Bruce make a plan to get Silver to spill. It looks like it is working, until a van pulls up with Tommy Flanagan from SOA in it! Chibs! He does look menacing with that handsome scar. And he’s evil, about to cut little bits off the children. Silver admits she was supposed to keep Bruce busy. This is a crazy scene with many twists and turns. The episode could have only shown this scene, and it would have been satisfying.
It warms my jaded little heart that Selina and Bruce are connected again. I so rarely find the children of a show fascinating, but these two… they are fantastic. Casting really got it spot on.
The trailers have shown that Galavan was set free, and you’ll see how. The tables have turned on Jim.
We also knew who the “Son of Gotham” was the entire time. Two lives are in peril at the end. I freakin’ love this show! I had to go back and check if this was the fall finale. It was that good. But that’s next week!
Gotham airs Monday nights at 8pm ET on FOX.
