Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for Glenn Ficarra and John Requa‘s Whiskey Tango Foxtrot starring Tina Fey as a journalist who travels all the way to war-torn Kabul in search of a story, and something more meaningful in her life. The film also stars Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfred Molina, and Christopher Abbott.

Of course when it comes to casting ethnicities, seeing Molina play a character from the Middle East leaves a few of us scratching our heads. But to be honest, it is not as bad as what is going on with Gods of Egypt, which you can see the trailer for here.
Much of the film relies on the premise of a fish out of water. Fey is definitely out of her element as she tries to adjust to an entirely new culture. But Robbie, who plays another journalist named Kim helps her get acclimated. Freeman plays a photographic journalist, while Thornton plays a military general who doesn’t seem to pleased that he has to take care of another journalist who doesn’t get the dangers of being in battle.
It’s an eye-opening experience for Fey’s character who looks to use this assignment as an excuse to get out of her mundane life. Interacting with the Muslim culture as well as talking to other journalists from around the world should help with that. The chemistry between Fey and Robbie seems pretty genuine, as they compare how hot they are on a numerical scale.
Based on the novel The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan by Kim Barker. It is adapted for the screen by Robert Carlock.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is coming to theaters March 4, 2016.
