Universal Congratulates ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ On Breaking ‘Jurassic World’ Record (Image)

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Han Solo and Chewie

Over the weekend Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke a couple of records, and you might have already heard, including Jurassic World‘s all-time biggest domestic opening weekend record.

Because Disney-owned Marvel was cool enough to congratulate Universal Pictures on breaking the record earlier this year, topping previous record-holder Marvel’s The Avengers, it seemed only fair that Universal return the favor. And that’s exactly what they’ve done. Just as Marvel tweeted out a congratulatory image of Chris Pratt riding a Tyrannosaurus rex holding Thor’s hammer Mjolnir in front of the Avengers team, Frank Marshall has tweeted out an image of the T-rex presenting droid BB-8 with a medal.

You can check out the congratulations image below.

Of note, producer Frank Marshall is husband to Kathleen Kennedy, President of Disney-owned Lucasfilm, the studio behind Star Wars, and the couple, along with Steven Spielberg formed Amblin Entertainment in 1981, so it’s all healthy competition at this point.

The Force Awakens also broke a bunch of other records, and is sure to break a few more on its theatrical journey.

That said, Universal’s Jurassic World still retained the belt for the biggest foreign opening (The Force Awakens still has to make its debut in China), so I’m sure they’re not too bummed about losing a couple of records to a fellow movie franchise titan. When the numbers first were coming in, it appeared that The Force Awakens had also fallen short on the grand total worldwide opening box office record, but it has since slipped past Jurassic World‘s mark on that one as well.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is directed by J.J. Abrams, who also co-wrote the script with Lawrence Kasdan. The movie stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, and Max von Sydow, who join returning stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker. You can catch it in theaters now.
