The Chronicles of Narnia movie franchise has traveled a rough road, being dumped and picked up by different movie studios a couple of times, but it’s not dead just yet.
It was back in 2013 when we found out that a fourth movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, was officially on the way. The movie would be a co-production of The Mark Gordon Company and C.S. Lewis Company, with C.S. Lewis’s stepson Douglas Gresham developing the screenplay along with Mark Gordon and C.S. Lewis Company director Vincent Sieber. Now Gordon has offered an update on the next movie in the franchise, saying that not only is it still alive and well but that it will be a reboot of the franchise entirely.
Gordon was present for the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour for his new CBS series Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, and was asked about The Silver Chair by Collider:
“We’re hoping to be able to make the movie very shortly. We’re very excited about it.”
But as for the cast of the previous three movies returning for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, it sounds like the plan is to start from scratch with new characters and a new team working on the movie:
“No, it’s all going to be a brand new franchise. All original. All original characters, different directors, and an entire new team that this is coming from.”
Disney was the first to take on adapting Lewis’s book series, making The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2005 and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian in 2008. After that Disney walked away from the franchise, leaving it for 20th Century Fox to pick up. They continued the franchise with 2010’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Which characters do those of you familiar with the books most look forward to seeing, and who do you want to see play them?
