Last week USA’s Colony premiered. Set in a dystopian aftermath of an occupation by aliens (We think?), Will Sullivan (Josh Holloway) and his family are trying to get by sans one member. Their middle boy, Charlie was taken to the other side of the wall during the occupation, and Will is sneaking in freezers to get him back. He got caught and surprisingly offered a job, his real name discovered (Bowman). They want him to collaborate, or his entire family will be taken. In a world of rations and barbed wire, is this the only way to survive? Unbeknownst to him, his wife Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies) is part of the Resistance he has to help take down.

Spoilers below.

Colony 1.2 “A Brave New World” review: Will’s friend Carlos (Jacob Vargas) gets taken away, while his wife and son hold in their screams.

Back at the Bowman house, the kids have no more school, but will be privately tutored for safety’s sake.

Will to his wife: “Your daddy was jealous of my motorcycle and my hair.” Who wouldn’t be?

At work, Will is given a new assignment and partner. He has to find the guy who was paid to blast the spot. And Carl Weathers is in Colony as Will’s partner, Beau. Apollo Creed!

Katie goes to her old bar to get it ready to open, one of the perks of being the wife of a Collaborator.

You can bribe with a soda. Beau warns against taking it, but they hired Will for a reason, right? Money is no longer the commodity, goods are. He is able to bribe a couple of kids for info with soda.

He gets his man and a drone shows up (see clip below). What is up with those things?

The wife and son show up at their house, and when they go to get them out of town, his ID just slides them through. Although Katie does not want to leave them there, it’s really the only choice. Will tries to go back to save Carlos thanks to his new boss, Phyllis (Kathy Baker), who gives him empathetic yet harsh advice. He still cannot save him from his fate.

What is his fate? Well at first you are convinced they are going to the gas chamber. They have to strip and then go into a room where different color lights and ominous sounds awash over them. But then you see the group dressed as surgeons. WTH?!?!?!?

Well, I’m still interested, and as confused as Will and Katie is about what the hell is going on. Both sides are quite cryptic.

Current theories:

1. Aliens
2. Government concocted the whole thing to control all the money. Runs both sides.
3. Both sides know of the husband and wife sides and both sides are feeding info, in order to destroy it from the inside.

What do you all think?

Colony airs Thursday nights at 10pm ET on the USA Network.

Colony | ‘This Season on Colony’

From executive producers Carlton Cuse (“Lost”) and Ryan Condal (“Hercules”) comes USA’s newest, highly-anticipated drama COLONY. Set in the very near future, COLONY centers on one family’s struggle to survive and bring liberty back to the people of an occupied Los Angeles. SAG winner Josh Holloway (“Lost”) stars as former FBI agent Will Bowman and Satellite Award winner Sarah Wayne Callies (“The Walking Dead”) stars as his wife, Katie, in the series which takes place in a dangerous world of divided ideologies. While some choose to collaborate with the occupation and benefit from the new order, others rebel and suffer the consequences. After being separated from their son during the invasion, Will and Katie are willing to do whatever is necessary to be reunited with him. Thus, when the powerful Proxy Snyder (Peter Jacobson, “House”) offers Will a chance to get his son back if he will collaborate with the occupational government, Will and Katie find themselves faced with the toughest decision of their lives. They will have to go beyond whatever they thought possible, risking their lives and their relationship to protect their family.
