Despite the major disappointment in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the single glimmer of hope that the DCEU can have some sense of joy came from the Dark Knight himself. Ben Affleck, who played the Caped Crusader, was one of the few bright things about a film so bogged down by being dour. Despite becoming a meme now, fans are excited that there is a new Batman in town, and they simply cannot wait to see what he will do in Justice League and hopefully his own solo adventure.
The actor has been rumored to have been working on a script with Geoff Johns and that he would also be directing. Now we can partially put that rumor to rest as a new report confirms that Affleck has indeed written a script. The report is also revealing how many films he is signed on to appear in. More on the story below.
William Morris Endeavor’s co-CEOs Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell tell THR that Affleck is signed on to appear in both Justice League films:
“He’s contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two, so at least three times wearing the cape, [and] there’s a script that he’s written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that’s out there as an option.”
As we have seen with Marvel, these actors are generally contracted to appear in multiple films, so it comes as no surprise that we will see Affleck don the cape and cowl for a few years to come. But rumors of the actor writing a script for his solo film started to emerge last year during Comic-Con. Seeing that there is confirmation that the script has been written leads us to believe that the DCEU will at least give Batman his chance to shine in his own film just as the fellow Justice Leaguers will get to do in the coming years.
Given how Chris Terrio (Argo) was brought in to rewrite some of the material and Affleck has been rumored to rewrite the script while on set, it doesn’t come off as a huge surprise that the Batman scenes and the relationship between him and Alfred were the best parts of the film. There were rumors that if BvS had soft numbers that WB would want to get the solo Batman flick off the ground ASAP. But seeing that Zack Snyder is already prepping for Justice League Part One, we will have to wait at least a few more years before we ever see a solo Batman film happen.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is out now in theaters.
