Of all the days to drop a trailer, 20th Century Fox decided today, Earth Day, a day to celebrate Mother Earth, to drop the newest trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence. It was 20 years ago since the first film was released, where aliens nearly annihilated the world with their destructive force. Since their defeat, humans have been able to adapt their technology to modify their own military forces. However, the aliens they defeated were only the welcoming committee, as they have returned with an even more powerful weapon than the one they had unleashed on us two decades ago.
Roland Emmerich returns to his directing post. Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, and Brent Spiner are also back to reprise their respective roles. They will all be joined by newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, and Jessie Usher. Check out the newest trailer here below.
While Will Smith couldn’t return to reprise his own role, the trailer makes sure to tell us that Captain Steven Hiller died and that his stepson Dylan Dubrow (Usher) will be fighting in his honor. It’s a little disappointing that we won’t be getting to see any more banter from Hiller and the charismatic David Levinson (Goldblum), but luckily it doesn’t look like Levinson has lost any of that charm, at least that is what the trailers and Fox’s Earth Day viral video tells us – because who doesn’t like a marketing gag where you can help save the environment while promoting your movie at the same time.
So in the spirit of saving the Earth, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has partnered with Earth Day Network and Google Play to offer fans 99 cent Digital HD purchases of Independence Day. To just to be sure that your purchase is being put to good use, The Earth Day Network’s Trees for the Earth initiative will receive a minimum of 50 cents from each sale of Independence Day from April 22-25 on Google Play to help support the planting of trees globally.
Independence Day: Resurgence opens June 24, 2016.
We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
