Rumor: ‘Justice League’ Villain Revealed; Maybe Someone We’ve Already Seen

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Deleted Scene

With superhero films being a part of shared universes, it has become somewhat of staple to name drop or have some sort of Easter Egg that hints at future sequels. Now that the DCEU’s shared universe is rolling, we can expect to hear more about Justice League: Part One and possibly other films in Suicide Squad. Given that the Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition is a three-hour cut, there will probably be some scenes that fill in the plot holes left behind in the theatrical cut.

There was strong indication, based on the Knightmare scene, that Darkseid will be the main villain in Justice League. But that doesn’t appear to be the case, as a new rumor has emerged saying it will be someone else and we may have already seen him. Check out who he could be in the full story below.

According to Birth. Movies. Death., the villain could be Steppenwolf. Here’s some background to the character for those who may not know who he is. Steppenwolf is Darkseid’s Uncle the military leader of Apokolips. Though he is a weapons master, Steppenwolf is best recognized by his signature axe. He also possesses immortality and other superhuman physical attributes.

While he didn’t make an appearance in the theatrical cut of BvS, he was briefly teased when Warner Bros. released a deleted scene to help promote the release of the Ultimate Edition. The scene in question finds Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) stands before a powerful figure with mother boxes orbiting around him while a military force storm the ship. But the figure dissolves right before their eyes, and Lex is apprehended. At the time it wasn’t clear who Luthor was communicating with, but there was speculation that it could Darkseid’s father, or be the manifestation of Rage – a villain that could tie into the Green Lantern story. Another possibility was that it could be one of Darkseid’s generals, and seeing that Steppenwolf fits that category, it is quite possible that he could be the villain of Justice League: Part One.

Now let’s just remember that this is nothing more than a rumor, so we need to take this with a grain of salt. Zack Snyder, WB, or anyone else involved, including the newly named executive producer Ben Affleck, have yet to comment or confirm the rumor. Considering that Wonder Woman has completed shooting and Justice League: Part One has just started shooting we probably won’t get any answers any time soon.

BMD believes that the film could be based on the “New 52” series, which finds Steppenwolf in a more proactive role than his previous incarnations. Previous iterations show the character to be a bit of a board. If Snyder ends up using the latter, he could interpret the character in many different ways which would be great for the filmmaker as it will provide him an opportunity to repair some of the damage that BvS has caused. The site also adds that Darkseid will be in the movie, but not to expect him to do much of anything, and that fully appears at the end of the film. Also the DCEU solo films solo movies between Justice League: Part One and Justice League: Part Two take place in realish time, meaning Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, will all take place in between the events of Part One and Part Two.

Justice League: Part One will hit theaters on Nov. 17, 2017, while Part Two is slated for release on June 14, 2019.
