Indiegogo Spotlight: ‘The Order’ Movie From Former ‘Power Rangers’ Stars

The Order Movie Indiegogo Cover

The 1st season of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers aired when I was in 1st grade, 22 years ago. For years, I made sure to watch each new iteration of the team, enamored by the colorful suits, the martial arts action, and the fact that young people were entrusted with saving the world.

I haven’t watched a new season of Power Rangers in quite some time, but I do, however, follow many of the actors on social media — and for the past month or so, some interesting things have occurred. First, many of the original cast and others changed their Facebook profile images to an intriguing symbol. Next, they began posting cryptic messages and videos, hinting at some sort of joint project. Finally, just last week, the group (including 18 former Power Ranger actors), launched a crowdfunding campaign for a film called The Order. Oh, nostalgia, you’ve made your way back to me.

I recently had the opportunity to interview some of the cast about the project and I’m really excited to share it with you all. You can find that and more below.

Written and created by Karan Ashley (Aisha Campbell, the Yellow Ranger) and David Fielding (Zordon), the cast and crew are looking to fund this project within the next two months. At a goal of $250k, the production has already accrued over $37k, but could definitely use some love!

Check out the interview below with Fielding, Catherine Sutherland (Katherine Hillard, the Pink Ranger), and Nakia Burrise (Tanya Sloan, the Yellow Zeo Ranger), and then go help fund The Order!

Geeks of Doom: First of all, I’d like to thank you for taking the time to chat with me at Geeks of Doom about your project, The Order.

David Fielding: Thank you for being so interested in our project and for your support. It means everything to us, because, we are doing this for the fans. They’ve been asking for years for a reunion or to see their favorite Rangers together again and this is our way of trying to make that happen.

GoD: So, this is all pretty fantastic, forgive me for geeking out a bit, but the child in me is very excited. Tell me, what is The Order all about?

Catherine Sutherland: There is a team of undercover operatives known as the Order that keep order in society. They are betrayed by some of their own, lead by very bad guy; a power hungry rogue operative. It’s chaos vs order. The Order vs The Anti-Order!! There is a lot of action, twists, and turns. It’s very exciting. Edge of your seat stuff! So much more than an action film. It’s got something for everyone.

Nakia Burrise: The Order is about one’s attempt at power, deception, trust, and vengeance. It involves an elite group of trained fighters that were once an alliance but are now enemies.

GoD: It sounds awesome, and if the trailer is any indication, it will be! What can each of you tell me about your character and how they fit into the grand-scheme of things?

DF: I play the character of Ralston, a member of the Order’s elder council, an overseer of sorts who monitors world events and the members of the Order. All of the Council were once field agents like the other members.

CS: My character is Erika. She is one of the key players of the Anti-Order team. I just LOVE my character. She is the daughter of Varus, the man who calls the shots for the Anti-Order. She is cold and calculating and FIERCE. Jason Faunt kept calling me Queen Bee when we filmed the trailer =).

NB: Shania is Varus’ right hand. She is intelligent, dangerous, and somewhat mysterious. She is a part of the Anti-Order. She makes sure Varus’ commands are followed through…by any means necessary!

GoD: Some intriguing sounding characters! You’ve pulled together quite the cast for this film; when and how did the idea for this movie originally come to fruition?

DF: Karan Ashley has had the idea to get the band back together for some time. Many of the Rangers had been approached about other films and projects that, for one reason or another, just didn’t work out or weren’t the right fit. Karan learned from Austin that I was a writer and we began speaking about the project and right away we both “got it.” We understood what we wanted to do and in just over two months had a completed first draft of the script.

CS: I remember having breakfast with Karan, Nakia, and Erin Cahill and Karan telling us that she was writing a script with David. She was very excited about it. We have been on this journey with her for a while. Supporting her completely. When she told me there was a part for me and sent the script, I was blown away!! We all were. I’m so proud of how much work she has put into this. She and Johnny Bosch have created magic. Such a great idea and seeing the vision come to life has been so exciting.

GoD: Can you tell me a bit about the development process?

DF: Karan and I had a lot of discussions about what approach to take — Karan wanted a “team” movie, along the lines of an Ocean’s 11 or a Mission: Impossible type of story — and in early drafts we did have a smaller cast performing heists and elaborate stealth and steal antics; but at some point we began to think of it more as an Expendables type story — and so the team grew in size and began an elite special ops organization dedicated to stopping world ending threats.

GoD: What has it been like working with so many actors from the Power Rangers franchise all at once?

DF: Awesome =) So awesome. Every one of them is an amazing person, talented and a joy to be around. I cannot wait to get back to work with them.

CS: Oh, that has been the best part! We are a family and so many of us working together for the first time…pretty epic I’d say. They all gave their absolute best. I love them all so much and am so blessed to share this adventure with them.

NB: It’s like being at Disneyland! I have absolutely loved being on set with so many talented people that I truly love. There are definitely many moments of laughter and fun. But, when it’s time to be live and in character, we are there!

GoD: I can’t imagine how much fun it must be! The Order doesn’t seem to be an action movie for the sake of making an action movie, but rather a love letter to your fans. Even your rewards seem to cater towards what a fan might enjoy, as opposed to what might be a typical reward. In what other ways has Power Ranger fandom influenced this project?

DF: This is truly a love letter to the fans — we really wanted to give them the chance to see their favorite actors in a project that was both fun and exciting. Everyone we meet is so amazing and we are very grateful and appreciative of all the love and support they’ve shown us. When Karan and I were writing, we tried to think of sequences and events that would get fans as excited as possible — to see their favorites on opposing sides, battling one another.

CS: In every way!! Fans have been so loyal and have wanted to see us back together on screen for so long. Karan and David heard that and moved on it! This is a chance to see your favorite superheroes in a new edgier role. This is our thank you to our fans for all their love!

NB: We know that our fans have been asking for years about the Power Rangers actors coming together in a film or television show. Well here we are. I am so grateful to Karan and David for bringing us all together for this incredible project! I am truly honored and blessed.

GoD: Will The Order be a standalone movie, or do you have plans for more? Or something else, perhaps?

DF: We are exploring the possibility of turning The Order into a series — how exciting would that be?!

CS: Oh the ending totally hints at a sequel. I could also see it being a series! It’s in Gods hands…

GoD: What other projects are you each working on?

DF: I am currently working on several screenplays, short stories, and am acting in two web-series: a paranormal series called Strange Happenings, and one here in Austin called Robin: The Web-series.

CS: Still working on my first children’s book. On my 4th draft and working with an amazing artist for the illustrations. Hope to have it completed soon. It’s a process!!

Stay tuned! I post on my Instagram and Facebook everything I’m working on so please follow me if you’re not already. Facebook: Catherine Sutherland (official) and Instagram: Catherine_Sutherland.

NB: I have a comedy series titled, Class Dismissed that is currently airing on YouTube. We are in pre-production for season two. I have also continued acting in various television shows and commercials.

GoD: Aside from financially, how else can the Geeks of Doom community help support your campaign?

DF: By spreading the word! We would love for this to go viral and to get some news and entertainment sites picking up the story.

CS: Please share with everyone you can. We need your support!

GoD: Thanks again for being a part of this interview and good luck with the project!

DF: Thank you!

CS: Thank you so much!

NB: Thank you for having me!

You can read more about the project, see all of the rewards being offered, and chip in over at the Indiegogo page.
