No matter what they like to call themselves, Archer, Lana, Cyril, and the rest of the gang that used to be spies, drug smugglers, and CIA freelancers cannot seem to stick to one job. Of course, just by doing that takes away from the fun of it all. But as Archer season 7 ended on a huge cliffhanger, it was unclear if FX wanted to explore more of what the worst thing that could go wrong for these former spies was.

But worry not as FX wants to make sure that they get a proper ending as the network has officially confirmed that The show will be extended all the way to season 10. However, there is a small catch. There will be less episodes for each season. More on the story below.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Archer‘s three season extension, keeping the spy spoof series on air with new episodes for what will presumably be up until its tenth season. However, each episode will have an eight-episode run with season 8 starting in early 2017, and subsequent season debuts will be announced at a later date. Eight episodes for each of the three seasons marks the shortest episode order that the series has had since its first season 10-episode run. It has been a 13-episode run from season two all the way to season seven.

No matter how this ends it seems that FX wants to continue to work with creator Adam Reed, as the network has signed an overall production deal with Reed and Archer executive producer Matt Thompson‘s Floyd County Productions.

So it should be interesting to see where the series goes from here. I still need to catch up on the final two episodes, but now that I know that there will be three more seasons, that cliffhanger won’t leave me hanging as much as if I had watched it before today’s news came out.

H. Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler, Jessica Walter, Chris Parnell, Judy Greer, Amber Nash, and Lucky Yates are the principal voice cast of Archer, which has had some pretty stellar guest stars that includes the likes of Patton Oswalt, Bryan Cranston, Fred Armisen, Ron Perlman, Clarke Peters, Anthony Bourdain, George Takei, Kenny Loggins, Jon Hamm, and you get the idea. While the series has been losing some of that comedy zing, hopefully a shorter episode order could really focus and hone in on the humor that made this spy spoof so funny.
