For a very long time, the casting of Kurt Russell in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has led many to believe that he would be playing Peter Quill/Star-Lord’s father.
Director James Gunn has been quick to shoot down the notion that it was J’Son. Though some just thought he was playing coy. But that doesn’t appear to be the case, as Russell has been confirmed to be playing Ego, who reveals himself to Peter as his father. Oh, they also showed off a trailer and some footage you can read descriptions of. Check it out below.
The first clip showed Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) being thrown into a prison cell by the Ravengers. How Yondu lost his position at this point is unclear. But before they can figure out what to do with them, one of the Ravengers wants to kill Baby Groot, while the other says no because he’s too adorable. So they proceed to give Baby Groot Ravenger garb. It’s rather cute. We then see Baby Groot offering to help Yondu and Rocket escape, so Yondu tells Baby Groot to retrieve his fin. Unsure of what the fin actually looks like despite Yondu’s description, Baby Groot grabs a variety of items that are not his fin. After a few attempts he finally finds it and gives it to Yondu, who then puts it on and calls forth his Arrow that shoots down the treacherous Ravengers. We then see a slow montage of the arrow piercing through these Ravengers as our three heroes escape.
It has also been confirmed that Sylvester Stallone will be in the movie as he appeared in the footage. Based on the very brief appearance he looked like he was wearing Nova Corp armor.
After everyone came out and expressed their excitement to be a part of the film, we were treated to a trailer. Just like any traditional trailer to a sequel we see our heroes getting into the same sort of trouble. This time Star-Lord, Gamora, and Drax are preparing for a great beast that needs to be destroyed. But as they wait, Star-Lord questions if Gamora is holding a rifle to which she says “of course it is a rifle, haven’t you seen one before?” Star-Lord replies that he would like to see some consistency, and Gamora said you wouldn’t bring a sword to the battle that they are about to have. So when we see this great beast, Star-Lord understands why she brought a rifle.
It’s pretty clear that Gunn is going to the jugular in terms of comedy and action, and of course great music. We finally get to see Elizabeth Debicki has the gold-faced villain of the film, who hires the Guardians to do something for her until the deal goes south.
The movie stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Sean Gunn as Kraglin. New cast members also include Debicki and Chris Sullivan.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens in theaters on May 5, 2017.
