The ongoing fight for gun control seems to have no end with parties for and against unable to come to some sort of consensus. So while that fight continues, it makes for some really good drama, and what better way for the general audience to see that than through an ensemble dramatization.
The first trailer for Miss Sloane starring Jessica Chastain has dropped online, and it doesn’t so much make an argument for gun control but rather what a lobbyist’s responsibilities are to make sure that their bill passes. Check out the full trailer below.
Chastain stars as Miss Sloane, a lobbyist who risks everything, personally and professionally, in order to get a gun control bill passed; while those who are against the bill strategize their own countermeasures. The actress is a central part of this trailer as she explains the responsibilities of the lobbyist while other clips show the overwhelming obstacles she has to overcome in order to succeed. In fact, EW says that she is in almost every part of this film, with director John Madden describing her as “the engine of this movie.” This wouldn’t be the first time that Chastain has been at the forefront of a political drama. She starred in Zero Dark Thirty, and A Most Violent Year.
The director also added:
“The first moment I read the script I thought that the role belonged to Jessica. She has a reputation now as an actor that’s in a class “” and people expect to see a level of performance from her that’s commanding and detailed and unusual. From tremendous strength and drive on the one hand and fragility and vulnerability on the other. And the scale on this film calls for both of those two things.”
This wouldn’t be the first time that Chastain and Madden have collaborated on a project before. Back in 2011, the two worked together on the historical drama, The Debt.
Mark Strong, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Stulbarg, Alison Pill, Jake Lacy, Sam Waterston, and John Lithgow also star.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
MISS SLOANE is the story a ruthless lobbyist (Jessica Chastain) who is notorious for her unparalleled talent and her desire to win at all costs, even when it puts her own career at risk. The thriller pulls back the curtain on how Capitol Hill games are played and won as Sloane faces off against the most influential powers in D.C.
Written by Jonathan Perera, a script that was actually on the 2015 Blacklist, Miss Sloane opens in theaters on December 9th.
