It’s a regular reunion for the characters of Netflix’s Marvel universe in The Defenders. In addition to the core group of Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones), many of the title heroes’ supporting team will also be in the upcoming superhero ensemble series.
Characters from Daredevil like Scott Glenn (Stick) and Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) will appear as well as Jessica Jones‘ Carrie-Anne Moss (Jeri Hogarth), Eka Darville (Malcolm Ducasse), and Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker). Luke Cage‘s Simone Missick will reprise her role as Misty Knight. Iron Fist‘s Jessica Henwick will also appear as Colleen Wing. Finally, there’s Rosario Dawson who returns as Claire Temple, the Nick Fury of this Netflix and Marvel collaboration.
Although we don’t know how these supporting characters will aid (or possibly hinder) The Defenders, they will most likely have run-ins with each other as leaked set photos have shown Misty Knight and Jessica Jones on opposite sides of each other.
But the casting process isn’t over. Now Elodie Yung will return to reprise her role as Elektra, Daredevil’s former love interest and badass assassin. Check out more on the story below.
News of Yung’s return was confirmed on the official Defenders Twitter account.
It’s not as though Elektra’s return was unexpected, as the young assassin was slain before she was put into a strange coffin designed by the nefarious group The Hand. Rumor has it the group will be led by Sigourney Weaver.
Audiences first met Elektra in Season 2 of Daredevil. The character was pretty much like the one from the comics, a deadly assassin who has had a relationship with Daredevil, but as an added twist for the Netflix series, she was the mysterious Black Sky weapon that the Black Hand has been searching for. While Daredevil thinks she was killed by The Hand, audiences saw he being put into a coffin-like device, presumably to unlock the hidden powers that The Hand is looking for or to at least keep her alive. That is just pure speculation. If she does emerge as the villain, it will undoubtedly cloud Daredevil’s judgement as he has had a previous relationship with Elektra, which was once again rekindled in season 2.
A fun extra tidbit that should be noted is the fact that the tweet comes with a vital sign signaling proof of life.
Season 1 of The Defenders is currently in production for a 2017 release on Netflix.
