Klaus
Hardcover | Kindle
Boom! Studios
This is Santa like you’ve never seen him before. Pretty much an origin story that spins our jolly old elf as anything but. Klaus is not for the kiddos, but a fun story that defiantly gets a toehold on the older myths behind the modern day gift distributor.
Sleepy Hollow: Providence
Paperback
By Eric Carrasco, Victor Santos, Jason Wordie
BOOM! Studios
Bridging the second and third seasons, this graphic novel is a must-have for the diehard Sleepy Hollow fan. True fact: it’s penned by one of the writers from the television show, so you know it’ll be true to the characters. It’s the whole storyline in one handy dandy book, making it an easy choice for this holiday season.
Creatures Of The Night
Hardcover | Kindle
By Neil Gaiman and Michael Zulli
Dark Horse Comics
Creatures Of The Night contains two spectacular stories from modern fantasy’s reigning godfather, Neil Gaiman. First off is The Price, which takes a different perspective and an unique point of view. The Daughter Of Owls is karmic in the most bizarre way. It’s a surefire hit for any Gaiman fan!
Fight Club 2
Hardcover | Kindle
By Chuck Palahniuk, David Mack, Cameron Stewart
Dark Horse Comics
This is a massive collection that spans all ten issues of Fight Club 2, the comic that is a follow-up to one of the most sensational books and films of our generation. Taking place a decade after the first story, it’s less about our twisted protagonist/antagonist than it is about his progeny. Is he still willing to watch the world burn? Only time (and this story) will tell.
Conan Volume 20: A Witch Shall Be Born

by Fred Van Lente and Brian Ching
Dark Horse Comics
It’s the end of era, peeps. Collecting issues 20 though 25 of, this is the last of Fred Van Lente‘s work on Conan The Avenger. It also features one of the most iconic and popular scenes in all of Conan lore, the crucifixion of our favorite Cimmerian. The is the perfect gift for any Robert E. Howard fan you know.
Super Mario Adventures

Not normally my cup of tea, this is a true gift from the gamers on high. It collects the Super Mario Adventures comics that were originally published in 1992 and 1993 for Nintendo Power magazine. Out of print for many years, this is almost a holy grail for true Mario fans everywhere. Don’t fail to grab it this time before the Goombas take it away again!

The Fade Out – Deluxe Edition
Hardcover
By Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips
Image Comics
Writer Ed Brubaker, penciller Sean Phillips, and colorist Elizabeth Breitweiser are one of the best team of creators working together today. This team keeps creating great books, whether it be Criminal, Fatale, or their current series Kill or Be Killed. The Fade Out is possibly the best of all their works, and if you’ve read anything by them, that is a high bar to reach. The Fade Out deals with the death of Hollywood starlet in the 1940s and the screenwriter trying to solve her murder. There’s no supernatural elements, just a lot of drama steeped in period specific authenticity.
Moebius Library: The World of Edena
Hardcover | Kindle
By Moebius
Dark Horse Comics
A lot of the work of French master Moebius has either never been released in the U.S. or is woefully out of print, but Dark Horse Comics is looking to correct that with The World of Edena. Edena is some classic sci-fi told by one of the best artists to ever work in comics all presented in a beautiful hardcover. Get this for the hardcore comic book lover in your life.
Paper Girls: Volume 1
Hardcover | Paperback
By Brian K. Vaughan, Cliff Chiang, Matt Wilson
Image Comics
Paper Girls is equal parts Lost, E.T., and The Explorers, but doesn’t get lost in trying to remind you how cool the 80s were. No, Paper Girls is content to tell you a story about some young girls that get mixed up in sci-fi shenanigans with writer Brian K. Vaughan‘s trademark twists and brilliant art by Cliff Chiang. This is a good book for someone you know who likes the idea of comics, but doesn’t read a lot of comics.
Kaijumax Season 1
Paperback
By Xander Cannon
Oni Press
Kaijumax is one of the best comics that not enough people are reading. Kaijumax is a prison drama in the vein of Orange is the New Black, except instead of women, all the inmates are giant monsters or many different varieties. What writer/artist Xander Cannon does is simply create great stories with a large cast (see what I did there?) that is a nice twist on the prison genre and is totally unique.
Joyride Volume 1
Paperback | Kindle
By Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Marcus To, Irma Kniivila
BOOM! Studios
Joyride is another great series that the comic book fan in your life maybe hasn’t read before, and it’s also a good book to give to teens. Joyride features great art from Marcus To and has a fun story of a group of teens who escape an isolationist Earth in the future, steal a spaceship, and go off exploring while they all deal with some complicated pasts. There’s a lot of teen drama, but To’s art stands out here and this will be an unexpected pleasure for someone you know.
The Omega Men: The End is Here
Paperback | Kindle
By Tom King, Barnaby Bagenda
DC Comics
This series is widely regarded as one of the best of the year, and honestly, I haven’t read it, so I’m hoping someone gets it for me this year. The Omega Men have always been one of those obscure groups of DC characters that fascinates me. They are a goofy sci-fi concept in a world of superheroes, but by all accounts what rising star writer Tom King has done is spin them into a political and social allegory that will make the reader think while being entertained. King has emerged as one of the smartest writers to emerge in comics in a long time and The Omega Men: The End is Here will be a great gift for a comic fan looking for a bit more from their books.
Monstress Volume 1: Awakening
Paperback | Kindle
By Marjorie Liu, Sana Takeda
Image Comics
If you want a book for the art lover in your world, look no further than Monstress by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda. Takada’s art is some of the best to be released this year, helping to tell this tale of magic and demons and the young women at the center of it all. Liu’s story is great, but it’s Takeda’s art that is the major draw here, with a beautiful painted style that is never stiff like some painted-style artists can be. Monstress is just gorgeous and any art lover is going to be blown away by it.
