BookCon 2018 Panel: ‘Fight Club’ Author Chuck Palahniuk
|
 |

Earlier this month, BookCon came to the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Midtown, Manhattan, where the floors were adorned with publishers, authors, vendors, readers of all ages, and even cosplayers! Like Comic-Con for the literature geeks, New York’s BookCon offered autograph signings, panel discussions, and Q&As all weekend long. Amongst the distinguished guests was acclaimed novelist Chuck Palahniuk. Palahniuk helped define a generation with his 1996 novel Fight Club, which then became a seminal film from director David Fincher in 1999 starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. He has authored countless other novels, short stories, and other works of both fiction and non-fiction literature, notably Choke, Survivor, Lullaby, Haunted, Fight Club 2, and Invisible Monsters. His style tends to cross the borders of the extreme and decent and his work is often considered “transgressional.†During the Con’s Saturday line-up, the author took to the stage to discuss his techniques, where he gets his crazy ideas, and his new book, Adjustment Day.

I couldn’t help but want to share this little bit of news with you folks! When Dark Horse Books dropped this into my inbox, it seemed like fate as I had just re-read Chuck Palahniuk‘s Invisible Monsters this past weekend. As fortuitous as it seems, Legacy: An Off-Color Novella For You To Color has apparently nothing to do with other Palahniuk novels. In fact, it’s more about telling a tale with audience participation!

David Fincher Collaborating With Trent Reznor On ‘Fight Club’ Rock Opera

The first rule of Fight Club is…you do not talk about Fight Club.
The second rule of Fight Club is…you do not talk about Fight Club.
But singing about Fight Club? That’s cool.
Believe it or not, True Believers, David Fincher‘s hypnotically brutal and satirical cult classic of Gen X masculinity gone horribly – and hilariously – wrong is looking to become the latest cinematic masterpiece to invade the Great White Way.
Fincher and Nine Inch Nails front-man (and one half of the composing team on his last three films – The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Gone Girl) Trent Reznor are working on a Broadway rock opera adaptation of the filmmaker’s excoriated, and later celebrated, 1999 release Fight Club.

You know that saying “You are your own worst enemy?” Well, no one knows that as well as the guy who’s currently calling himself Sebastian. You might know him from his exploits a decade ago. But this story is unfolding in the newest installment: Fight Club 2 #2. Because if you crack the candy(ass) coating you’ll get a long, dark look at Tyler Durden lurking right below the surface. He is buried inside, right? Hunh, well maybe not.
If you find yourself unfamiliar with Chuck Palahniuk‘s Fight Club then shame on you, there’s really no excuse for that kind of behavior. When we are done here I expect you to go grab a copy and read it. And no, watching the movie does not count. Because as sure as I am sitting here listening to Filter, you NEED to embrace the awesomeness that is Chuck P. So much twisted goodness that you won’t know what to do. But I digress. Let’s chat about this comic, shall we?

‘Destiny has a pesky way of catching up’
For a sequel that divided the Space Monkeys, Fight Club 2 #1 is a sucker punch to the face that reminds you why you joined the club in the first place. You know which one. What? We’re all rule breakers here. Author Chuck Palahniuk being the biggest one, who after years of saying there’d never be a sequel to his breakout novel and it’s subsequent film adaptation, has crafted something real special. But with Palahniuk’s sense of humor, this continuation we’ve begged for or bemoaned may lead us to his particular brand of surprises. Like Rant’s momma who baked her meals with shards of glass and nails, Palahniuk makes you chew on every page from the start.
