FX's Y: The Last Man TV Series

Back in April we found out that the latest attempt to adapt Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra‘s comic book classic Y: The Last Man, a TV series set up at FX going simply by the title Y, had lost showrunners Michael Green (American Gods, Logan) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Jessica Jones) after years of developing the series, putting together a cast, and even filming a pilot episode.

But while FX had made the decision to not move forward with Green and Croal’s take on the story “in its current form,” it was made clear that they would be searching for a replacement and the show would go on. Now that replacement has been found, as Eliza Clark has been hired to take over showrunner duties.

FX's Y: The Last Man Series

It looked like the latest in a long line of attempts to adapt Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra‘s classic comic Y: The Last Man, a TV series set up at FX which is going by the title Y, was going to be the one to finally break free and become a reality. And it still might, when all is said and done. But another speedbump has been hit, and it’s a fairly significant one.

After years of working on the show, which FX ordered to series back in February, showrunners Michael Green (American Gods, Logan) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Jessica Jones) have announced that they are departing the project.

Y: The Last Man Vertigo

It’s already been nearly three years since it was reported that an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra‘s incredible comic book Y: The Last Man was now being developed as a TV series at FX instead of the long in-development movie, and nearly two years since we found out that Logan and Blade Runner 2049 writer and former American Gods showrunner Michael Green would be the showrunner. It’s since been announced that Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Jessica Jones) will also be sharing showrunner duties with Green.

Now things are really starting to heat up as a cast for the series, which is simply titled Y, has been announced. Starring in the pilot episode will be Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, The Killing of a Sacred Deer), Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel, Brotherhood), Imogen Poots (Green Room, 28 Weeks Later), Diane Lane (Unfaithful, Man of Steel), Juliana Canfield (Succession, Plain Fiction), and Marin Ireland (Sneaky Pete, Hell or High Water).
