FX's Y: The Last Man TV Series

Back in April we found out that the latest attempt to adapt Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra‘s comic book classic Y: The Last Man, a TV series set up at FX going simply by the title Y, had lost showrunners Michael Green (American Gods, Logan) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Jessica Jones) after years of developing the series, putting together a cast, and even filming a pilot episode.

But while FX had made the decision to not move forward with Green and Croal’s take on the story “in its current form,” it was made clear that they would be searching for a replacement and the show would go on. Now that replacement has been found, as Eliza Clark has been hired to take over showrunner duties.

Clark’s credits including writing episodes of Rubicon and The Killing, and writing and producing episodes of Extant and Animal Kingdom.

Of the announcement, FX’s original programming president Nick Grad said:

“Eliza Clark is an enormously talented writer and producer whose ambitious vision for Y will only enhance the mystique and allure of this powerful story. We are thrilled to have her on board and partner with this stellar cast, Brian, Nina, Brad and Melina.”

Clark also released a statement, saying:

“A decade ago I devoured the complete Y: The Last Man series cover to cover, imagining how it might take shape on screen. It introduced me to the amazing work of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra and the complex, fascinating world of Y. I’m thrilled to tell this story and to be working with this immensely talented cast.”

Producer Nina Jacobson said of Clark:

“We were chasing Eliza Clark as a writer long before we knew that she shared our obsession with Y: The Last Man. Eli’s singular voice and insight into the world and themes of Y make her uniquely suited to bring this story to life.”

Starring in Y is Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, The Killing of a Sacred Deer) as Yorick Brown, Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel, Brotherhood) as 355, Imogen Poots (Green Room, 28 Weeks Later) as Hero Brown, Diane Lane (Unfaithful, Man of Steel) as Senator Brown, Juliana Canfield (Succession, Plain Fiction) as Beth, Marin Ireland (Sneaky Pete, Hell or High Water) as Nora, Rona-Lee Shim’on (Fauda, A Quiet Heart) as Alter, and Amber Tamblyn (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Joan of Arcadia) as the daughter of the President of the United States.

Still no word on who will be playing Doctor Allison Mann, if anyone.

No release window for FX’s Y: The Last Man series has been set in stone yet, though it is still expected to premiere sometime in 2020.
