Last week on Gotham, someone put out a hit on Mario (James Carpinello), and Jim (Ben McKenzie) saved him twice, but not before seeing that something was not quite right with him. Bruce (David Mazouz) found The Whisper Gang who are rebelling against the Court of Owls, and decided to join them. Nygma (Cory Michael Smith), convinced that Butch (Drew Powell) had Isabella (Chelsea Spack) killed, gave Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) an impossible choice: lose her hand or let Butch die. Butch gave a sweet speech and she sacrificed her hand. Nygma realized too late that he had the wrong guy. Barbara (Erin Richards) figured out the real culprit.

Spoilers below.

Gotham 3.11 “Mad City: Beware the Green-Eyed Monster” review: Mario chats up the lab guy testing the Tetch blood, fishing for info. Then he crushes the guy’s head until his eyeballs pop out. What is up with the crushing heads on TV nowadays? I could not look at the screen. Jim goes to the lab and Mario throws him through glass, but he didn’t catch who did it though.

Bruce throws in with the Whisper gang. They stake out the court. Selina (Camren Bicondova) leaves – she cannot take the feels.

Barbara visits Nygma, who does not see the obvious, “They weaken me, they weaken him.” She fake coughs “Penguin,” and reveals all. He, of course, does not believe her, but the seed is planted. Nygma gets Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) to confess his love and immediately starts fantasizing about killing Penguin.

Jim knows someone else is infected, and visits Tetch (Benedict Samuel) to find out. But it is his game. “I say when it’s done.” Except Jim tricks him with rhymes in a really fun scene. McKenzie, and thus Gordon, is not known for his whimsy in character, so to step out of it in this angry way was great, especially with Samuel covering his mouth in consternation once he realizes he is letting it slip out in rhyme form.

Jim looks for Lee (Morena Baccharin) but finds Mario, who has Victor Zsasz hold him until a certain time. He runs right to confront Lee, which plays right into Mario’s plan. I’m mad at Lee for not believing Jim. He may be intense and angry most of the time, but he doesn’t lie.

The Whisper guy gets murdered by a guy in a Batman mask. They have to go in alone. Selina returns.

Bruce: “Does this mean you are my girlfriend?”

Selina: “Shut up.” They’re cute.

She tightropes across some red laser alarms. And of course Bruce ends up letting go because the Batman guy comes. There is a big surprise at the end of this scene.

There is a little surprise for Barbara’s team.

Nygma (head down): “I’m sorry about your hand.”

Tabitha: “Apology not accepted!”

Barbara: “We’ll work on that.”

Jim promises he won’t kill Mario after shooting the kneecaps of Falcone’s goons. Oh Jim. Don’t do that. That’s like proclaiming a Mario death sentence.

I do not like how it ended for Jim. He is in big trouble. The way this all went down made me feel really bad. I guess it did what it was supposed to do, but I don’t have to like it. What I really loved was the scene between McKenzie and Samuel and the rhyming couplets, and the last scene with the new Barbara-Nygma-Tabitha-Butch team-up. That is going to be so much fun.

Gotham airs Monday nights at 8:00pm ET on FOX.
