Wait, What? ‘Pineapple Express’ Team To Make New ‘Halloween’ Movie

Halloween

Original Halloween director John Carpenter has announced who will be making the next movie in the series, and the names are quite unexpected.

Carpenter has revealed that Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green and star Danny McBride will be writing the screenplay for the new movie, with Green also directing. Carpenter also threw in an added bonus, sharing when fans can expect to see the movie as well. Continue reading to see what he had to say and what the release date is.

The next Halloween was first revealed in May of last year. Carpenter is an executive producer and consultant on the movie, the first in the franchise he will be a part of since producing 1982’s Halloween III: Season of the Witch.

All the Real Girls, Your Highness, episodes of Eastbound & Down, and an episode of Vice Principals are among the other things Green has directed, all of them also starring McBride.

Bringing them in to direct a horror movie—in an iconic horror franchise, at that—is a decision that some fans will no doubt be nervous about. Time will tell on whether it will pay off or not, but it’s undoubtedly a bold move. Safe can sometimes be boring. It only seems odd right now because Green and McBride are known for their work in comedy. For all we know, they’re both Halloween and horror fans who have been itching for a chance to genre hop. Green has also made dramatic films before, and let’s not forget, McBride spent time recently hanging out with Ridley Scott making Alien: Covenant, so perhaps some wisdom was imparted to him.

Plus, comedy is a crucial ingredient in some of the best horror flicks. At least it is for me anyway. Having some humor in your horror, mostly at the beginning but also with well-timed jokes spread throughout, enhances the scary when it arrives. Laughter helps you to relax a little, makes you feel safe for a moment, leaving you vulnerable to a terrifying blindside.

With Carpenter involved and having a solid vision of how the new movie should be approached, I for one am excited to see what Green and McBride come up with.

The new Halloween movie is currently scheduled for release on October 19th, 2018.
