The first trailer has been released for the next Star Trek TV series, titled Star Trek: Beyond. The release of the trailer follows the release of the first official image, seen above.
The trailer looks like you’d expect a trailer for a Star Trek TV series to look, with one addition some may not be crazy about: the infamous lens flares J.J. Abrams introduced in the reboot of the movie franchise.

About Star Trek: Discovery:
Star Trek, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, returns 50 years after it first premiered, with STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. The series will feature a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers. The series will premiere on the CBS Television Network with all subsequent episodes available on CBS All Access.
The fact that the show, apart from the pilot episode, will be aired entirely on the CBS streaming service CBS All Access became more interesting this week.
We saw a trailer released for a Star Trek-INSPIRED sci-fi comedy from the creator of Family Guy Seth MacFarlane, The Orville, which FOX is confident enough to put on TV. While CBS has an ACTUAL Star Trek series—the first since Star Trek: Enterprise ended in 2005—which they’re not confident enough in to put on TV.
We’ll find out if it’s a wise decision when the show arrives this fall. The trailer has gotten quite a few dislikes on YouTube, so perhaps they know something we don’t. Or perhaps it’s the lens flares. Either way, I worry about how well Discovery will do when people have to actually pay money to see it while the usual crap CBS airs each night is easily accessible to anyone with a TV.
Starring in the series is The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green, along with Michelle Yeoh, Jason Isaacs, Anthony Rapp, Doug Jones, James Frain, Terry Serpico, Maulik Pancholy, and Sam Vartholomeos.
