Honest Trailer Fate And The Furious

In preparation for the Blu-ray release of yet another movie combining F-words and numbers, the gang at Screen Junkies dedicated this week’s Honest Trailer to The Fate of the Furious, the 8th installment in the franchise that is just as dumb, yet not as insulting as Transformers. Amazing to think, based on the last few films in this series, what they have become, but this franchise started with street racing criminals with a cop who had to infiltrate the gang… so basically Point Break with cars. Now the Furious squad has essentially outfit-less superheroes, even narrator Jon Bailey calls them “meta-humans,” and when they’re not speed racing, they’re being given super GI-Joe style government operations… yeah, I’m apparently one of the only ones who just can’t find the fun here. And when I say only ones, I mean it… this movie made $1.2 billion worldwide.

Check out the Honest Trailer below.

This movie is… exactly like all of the ones since part 5… filled with cars, other vehicles, and Vin Diesel speaking in his own native language. This one though, is filled with way too much annoying backstory and plot mumbo jumbo, which just serves to disrupt the amazing buddy cop/weird bromance story of The Rock and Jason Statham. Seriously, I’d much rather see that spin-off than anymore F&F movies. Everything they do onscreen is infinitely more interesting than sad stoic Vin Diesel, and new villain Charlize Theron who manages to look amazing despite terrible dreads and constant whispering. Bailey’s “Charlize, you’re better than this,” had me laughing hard.

So follow Rule # 1: “Know your audience,” and keep things simple. Cars goes fast… cars goes boom, and if we play our cards right, Fast 9 will be out of this world… as in they’ll go to space. At this point, I’m starting to think comparing this franchise to Transformers was out of line, and maybe it’s more akin to Sharknado.

Starring: Awesome car puns like, VIN Number Diesel, Planes Dwaynes & Automobiles, Tire Race Driftson, and Helen Rear View Mirren: New Title – Car Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jetta.

The Screen Junkies currently have over 6.1 million subscribers on YouTube and release a new Honest Trailer every Tuesday.
