The crowd was buzzing at the start of Amazon’s panel for their new scripted drama, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, as its lead star and executive producer John Krasinski — who plays the titular character — hit the stage. Along with moderator Terry Schwartz, Krasinski was accompanied by co-star Abbie Cornish, and executive producers Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland.
Fans were treated to a couple of scenes from the show, the initial clip being the first seven minutes of the premiere episode.
Minor Spoilers Below:
At the start of the episode, scenes include two young brothers in a Middle Eastern country who witness multiple planes flying over their home and bombing their neighboring city; Jack Ryan rowing a boat and riding a bicycle around Boston before heading into his office job at the CIA; and a meeting with Ryan and his co-workers.
The second clip was actually a new trailer for the season, showcasing Jack Ryan’s first meeting with Cathy Mueller, his training from an analyst to an operative, and a montage of intense action sequences involving terrorism both in the Middle East and in the United States.
The scenes with Ryan are clearly meant to show that he is just an ordinary guy at the beginning of this series – something that will certainly change as his character and the series itself develops.
Check out the top 3 things you need to know about Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan panel below:
3 – Cuse and Roland wanted to start the series in a different place than the books and movies. Aside from it taking place in modern times, the character of James Greer is Jack’s immediate boss, not much higher up in the CIA; we also get to see Jack’s development from a normal, report-writing office worker, to a major CIA operative.
2 – The actors did their research. They were able to visit the CIA, learning from the real professionals. Cornish even downloaded multiple audiobooks on infectious diseases in order to discover what it is actually like for a doctor to deal with such responsibilities.
1 – Krasinski has many family members who serve in various branches of the military, so doing 13 Hours and then Jack Ryan has been an amazing experience for him. “To do something so selfless as to serve them, putting your life on the line for them, even though you’ll never meet,” Kransinski says, “there’s nothing more noble.”
