Netflix has a new holiday flick on the way, and they’ve grabbed The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Tombstone, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Kurt Russell to play Saint Nick himself, Santa Claus.

The movie doesn’t have a title yet, but will follow a pair of siblings who decide to prove Santa exists by catching him on camera. Instead, they end up accidentally causing Santa to crash his sleigh, and must help to save Christmas.

Playing the siblings alongside Russell’s Santa is Judah Lewis, who recently starred in the Netflix horror-comedy The Babysitter, and Darby Camp, who stars in HBO’s Big Little Lies and the upcoming Benji remake.

Matt Lieberman penned the script for the movie, which was originally titled 12/24, based on an idea he and David Guggenheim (Safe House, Designated Survivor) came up with. Lieberman also wrote a new stop-motion animated take on The Addams Family being made by MGM, and has been attached to a possible Short Circuit remake.

The movie will be live-action, with CGI elements mixed in. Directing is someone who has lots of experience in animation, Clay Kaytis, who co-directed The Angry Birds Movie and worked in the animation department on many titles including Disney hand-drawn features Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan, The Emperor’s New Groove, and Treasure Planet, as well as computer animated titles like Bolt, Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, and Frozen.

The movie is produced by Chris Columbus, who directed the holiday season classic Home Alone and its sequel, as well as Mrs. Doubtfire, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and more.

Production on the untitled Santa Claus movie is planned for January, with plans of releasing it during the holiday season next year.
