The success of 2017’s IT gave way to countless dream castings of adult actors who would play their child counterparts. Among the top actors fans hoped would join the sequel is Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain, who many hoped would play Beverly.
Now it looks like that dream may come true as Chastain has entered talks to play the older Bev in IT: Chapter 2. More on the story below.
Variety says Chastain is in early talks to play the older Bev. The script is currently under development.
Sophia Lillis played the younger Beverly in the film. During the film’s press tour, the young actor said she would like to see Chastain play the older version of her character. Pretty much echoing what everyone is hoping for.
Now that it is becoming closer to reality, it should be interesting to see if New Line will go with some of the other dream castings the younger members of Losers’ Club have in mind. For more on who they hope to see, check out the interview over at Collider. Among some of the actors the kids hope to see in the sequel are Christian Bale, who would play Georgie; Chris Pratt as Ben; Bill Hader as Richie; and Chadwick Boseman as Mike.
This also wouldn’t be the first time that Chastain has worked with IT director Andy Muschietti. She appeared in Muschietti”˜s Mama. And both speak highly of each other, so much so that it’s surprising that it has taken this long for the two to get back together on a project.
But unlike the original Stephen King novel (and similar to the 1990 TV movie adaptation), Muschietti”˜s IT adaptation is split into two parts, with the first focusing on the kids and the second turning its attention to the adults who have returned to Derry to face the everyone’s favorite dancing clown, Pennywise, who will be played again by Bill Skarsgard.
However, it remains to be seen how faithful Muschietti’s adaptation will be to the source material.
Since IT‘s success last year, New Line has made releasing a sequel a top priority. If talks are successful, Chastain would be the first big-name star to appear in the sequel. It remains to be seen who else the studio is looking at to fill the remaining roles.
IT: Chapter 2 will hit theaters on September 6, 2019.
