Last Man On Earth 310-13

The DCEU may be in complete disarray, but the films that are currently in development leave us with a slight bit of hope that it could work out for the superhero universe. But since this is the DCEU, chances are it’s going to force the studio to look back at the drawing board. Unless you are the highly successful Wonder Woman. Since the film has achieved critical and commercial success, the studio has now focused their efforts on getting a Wonder Woman 2 off the ground.

Though it is still in the early stages of development, the film is beginning to start casting its new characters. You know, since it is rumored to take place in the ’80s and it’s not likely that anyone from the first film, aside from the title character, has survived. And it looks like they have just cast one of their new villains. According to new reports, Kristen Wiig is currently in talks to play Cheetah. More on the story below.

Deadline was the first to report on the news. According to them, the film will be set during the height of the Cold War. This would also mark the first time that a major superhero film would have a female hero and female villain facing off against each other.

No word yet on how the film will tie into the overall DCEU. Not that it really matters considering the franchise’s current situation and how the first didn’t make any connections, to begin with.

But this is a fantastic choice given Wiig’s versatility. Having started her career on Saturday Night Live, Wiig has since branched off to various roles ranging from the comedic Bridesmaids to the more dramatic like The Martian. Going for a role like Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2 would be her first step into the superhero movie world. Let’s just hope that she is a lot better than Ares. And it can’t get any worse than Steppenwolf.

For those that may not be familiar with Cheetah, the character was Dr. Barbara Minerva, a British archaeologist who had garnered a reputation to go to any lengths to secure an artifact. While searching for a legendary artifact, her guides betrayed her team and she was forced to take a dive in order to escape. When she emerged from the river, she found herself at the steps of a temple where a ritual was being performed. It was there that she learned whoever undergoes the ritual would receive the powers of the cheetah god. So she demanded that the ritual be performed on her, and she kills one of her surviving colleagues to act as her sacrifice in order to receive the power.

Cheetah’s skills include super strength, speed, agility, and durability, along with animal instincts and cheetah-like abilities.

The film is said to be a top priority for WB, who has been struggling to keep the DCEU afloat.

It’s important to stress that nothing is confirmed as of yet. Talks could break down, and she may not even take the role. But it looks like we can get a sense of who WB and director Patty Jenkins is looking for, at least.

Wonder Woman 2 is expected to hit theaters on November 1, 2019.
