If xXx: Return of Xander Cage was going to accomplish anything, it was going to make sure its audience was going to have a good time.
And while it may have not broken any box office records, the franchise still has a strong following. So, it comes as no surprise that we will be getting a xXx 4 with Vin Diesel set to return as star. More on the story below.
THR says Diesel and One Race Films have bought the xXx rights back from Revolution Studios. In addition to buying the rights back, they announced that they will be teaming up with H Collective to produce xXx 4. D.J. Caruso, who helmed xXx: Return of Xander Cage, will also be returning to direct.
H Collective CEO Nic Crawley said Tuesday in a statement:
“During my time at Paramount, I was lucky to be involved in the development and distribution of xXx: Return of Xander Cage. The response from the Chinese box office was unprecedented. Bringing the next installment of the xXx franchise to The H Collective complements our diversified slate and mission to produce content for a global audience.”
Production on xXx 4 is slated to begin this December. No word yet on when the film could be released.
For better or for worse, xXx: Return of Xander Cage was one wild ride that sustained itself thanks to the film embracing its absurdity. How long that could actually last is not clear. You can only do that so many times before the audience gets bored. So let’s just hope there is something more meaty in the next sequel. That being said, the xXx films aren’t exactly known for their scripts or dialogue and are better known for their crazy stunts involving dirt bikes turning into jet skis.
Also, if you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you give it a look (read my review here). It’s just one wildly good time.
