A Quiet Place

John Krasinski‘s A Quiet Place was already predicted to be a hit with audiences even before it was going to be released. And now that the relatively low-budget film is one, it should come as no surprise that Paramount has already greenlit a sequel.

The studio made the announcement during their panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, yesterday. More on the story below.

Variety reports that Jim Gianopulos, chairman and CEO of Paramount, told exhibitors at CinemaCon that “We’re thrilled to say that we’re already working on the sequel to A Quiet Place.” Gianopulos said at the panel that the same creative forces behind the first film will be working on the sequel. However, it is unclear if that means that co-writer and director Krasinski, co-writers Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, and producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will be coming back or if just some will return.

Of course, we don’t know anything about the plot of the sequel. While the first film did end on an open-ended note, it’s unclear where the film could go. Even if we knew who was coming back, there is no way that Gianopulos would let us know anything about the sequel.

Still, it comes as no surprise that Paramount would be interested in a sequel given that the first has grossed over $213.2 million on a $17 million budget. This follows other low-budget thrillers and horrors like IT and Get Out. The former is getting a sequel, while the latter has gone on to be an Academy Award-winning film.

This is a big moment for Paramount, who has suffered a lack of a strong box office presence throughout the years. We will just have to wait and see how fast the studio moves on getting a sequel into production. But one thing is for sure, Paramount really believes in their product and that audiences will react well to it when it is released.

We will keep you up to date on any new developments when they come in.

In the meantime, check out our review of the film.
