Trilogies are always going to be a part of a major superhero franchise like Guardians of the Galaxy. But after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, it’s going to be hard to see how the galaxy’s misfits move forward. That being said, we already knew that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would take place after the events of Avengers 4.
And now we know that director James Gunn has finished writing the script for the last installment of the trilogy. There may be some spoilers ahead, so hit the jump at your own discretion and check out the photo below.
Gunn took to Twitter to say what he had finished with a bit of a somber note:
Christina Radish of Collider, managed to get a quote from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to ask about the update of the sequel:
“[Writer/director] James [Gunn] has delivered a draft and we begin official pre-production on that very, very soon. It’ll be shooting early next year. Captain Marvel finishes in about two weeks, Spider-Man starts in about two weeks, and then Guardians 3 will start early next year.”
There will be some spoilers now. But you’ve had plenty of time to see Avengers: Infinity War.
It will be interesting to see how the Guardians rally together especially after what happened to them. Gamora was sacrificed by Thanos in order to get the Soul Stone. He then snapped at the entire universe, turning Star-Lord, Drax, Groot, and Mantis into dust. Not only that but the remaining members, Rocket and Nebula, are on completely different parts of the galaxy.
But I am betting Avengers 4 will answer some of those questions. At least I hope it does. Of course, then there is how time works in the MCU. Some of the films we have seen do not take place in a time-linear fashion. Ant-Man and the Wasp actually is set after Captain America: Civil War but before Avengers: Infinity War. So there is a possibility that the Guardians could have been on a different adventure before Infinity War.
That being said, Gunn did confirm that it would take place after Infinity War:
So we can probably expect to see the fallout of the events of Infinity War in Vol. 3 or the team dealing with the trauma that they were once dead or that Rocket and Nebula are still not over their deaths. So much speculation. Of course, we will keep you up to date should any new developments come in.
