The rumor surrounding Jon Favreau‘s Star Wars TV show was that it would center on the Mandalorian race. And now a new Instagram post confirms those rumors.
An image posted by Favreau reveals that the title of the show will simply be The Mandalorian, and it follows “the travels of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.” More on the story below.
Here’s the image:
And just in case you cannot see the embed, here’s the text:
“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travels of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic”¦”
This obviously confirms rumors that the show will be about Mandalorians and be set three years after the events of Return of the Jedi. According to previous reports, the series will air on Disney Play, Disney’s upcoming streaming service set to launch in 2019. The Mandalorian is said to have a $100 million price tag with each episode costing approximately $10 million.
Here’s what Favreau had to say about the show earlier this year:
“Star Wars is a big world, and Disney’s new streaming service affords a wonderful opportunity to tell stories that stretch out over multiple chapters.”
It will be interesting to see how successful the show will be and if it can extend to multiple seasons. Based on Favreau’s statement, it will. Of course, that is everyone’s hope. And it looks like there won’t be any recognizable Mandalorians in this one as the premise states “after the stories of Jango and Boba.” But it will be exciting to see what has happened in between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. And even more exciting that it won’t be about two warring factions but a “lone gunfighter.”
There are rumors saying Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal is being eyed for a role in the series. Let’s just hope he can last more than just a handful of episodes. Werner Herzog is also rumored for a role. Of course, we will keep you posted on The Mandalorian when more developments come in.
