Crossbones Returning In ‘Avengers 4’ According To Frank Grillo

Crossbones Marvel Cinematic Universe

Comic book characters have some trouble staying dead. And the same can be said for the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although they might not be brought back to life like their comic book counterparts.

Instead, we get to see previously dead characters rise from the grave thanks to the use of flashbacks. And it looks like we may see the use of it once more in Avengers 4. But it won’t be a hero. Instead, Frank Grillo‘s Crossbones aka Brock Rumlo will be making a comeback. More on the report below.

The statement comes to us from UFC Underground via Heroic Hollywood. Here’s what Grillo has to say about his return:

“[Crossbones] makes an appearance in the next Avengers movie, but it’s a flashback. And I’m allowed to say whatever I want because I’m never doing another Marvel movie”¦because I’m 117 years old.”/div>

First things first, anyone hoping for a Crossbones standalone movie will be severely disappointed that Grillo will most definitely not be returning.

But the most important takeaway from this is that Crossbones will be returning, albeit a flashback. Should he appear in the film, there is an off chance the scene could end up on the cutting room floor, it would mark the third time that Grillo has appeared in an MCU film. The first being Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where he played Brock, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who was, in reality, an agent of H.Y.D.R.A. However, he made a short-lived return as Crossbones in Captain America: Civil War, as he tried to obtain a deadly virus. But he was killed in a suicide bombing attempt gone wrong. So how the flashback would fit into the overall Avengers 4 narrative is unclear.

There are rumors that Avengers 4 could have some time travel involved. Going back in the past to revisit what happened at the Wakanda embassy would be interesting. Of course, if they were to alter any of those events, it would have an impact on the future. Maybe even prevent Thanos’ snap from ever happening. But that’s unlikely because it just seems cheap and lazy.

These sort of interviews have always been very casual. Sometimes what these actors say about their return is over-exaggerated. But who knows. Maybe Crossbones’ return will have a much bigger impact. But that is just some speculation on my part.

Guess we will find out how all of this plays out when Avengers 4 opens in theaters on May 3, 2019.
