A teaser video has been released for Netflix’s upcoming original movie, The Dirt, a biopic about the heavy metal band Motley Crue, based on their 2001 best-selling autobiography, The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band.
The video, which you can watch here below, teases the movie’s first trailer, which will be released tomorrow.
This is really the first look at the movie, which will explore the sex, drugs, and rock and roll lifestyle of the 1980s band, featuring lead singer Vince Neil, bassist Nikki Sixx, lead guitarist Mick Mars, and drummer Tommy Lee.
I’m a life-long Motley Crue fan and I’ve seen them live numerous times since the 80s, and I have like three signed copies of The Dirt, so I’m really looking forward to seeing this movie! The stuff the band revealed in the book was some crazy shit.
When I first glimpsed this teaser, which goes by real quick, I was shocked at how the actors and filmmakers really nailed down the look of the band, as well as their concerts and other famous moments of their lives, including Tommy Lee’s wedding to actress Heather Locklear. The opening shot looks like the band in their early years strutting down what’s likely the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA, where they got their start with their 1981 debut album, Too Fast For Love.
The film, directed by Jeff Tremaine with a screenplay by Rich Wilkes, stars Daniel Webber as Vince Neil, Douglas Booth as Nikki Sixx, Machine Gun Kelly as Tommy Lee, and Iwan Rheon as Mick Mars.
If you’re unfamiliar with those names, here’s some info on them: Aussie actor Webber was the young PTSD-suffering vet in the Marvel Netflix original series The Punisher; Booth is a British actor who appeared in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Jupiter Ascending; Kelly is an American rapper, and Rheon – get this – was the psychopathic bastard Ramsay Bolton on HBO’s Game Of Thrones! So far with one look at this teaser, you can’t recognize any of them. They are The Crue.
While Motley Crue officially retired in 2014, the group did reunite to record 4 new songs for the movie.
The Dirt will be released on Netflix on March 22, 2019.
