We knew a most excellent Bill & Ted sequel was on the way and now we know when.
In a special announcement today from the Wyld Stallyns themselves, Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, it was revealed that the planned third film is coming to theaters in Summer 2020.
The actors revealed the news about Bill & Ted 3: Face the Music in a video shot at The Hollywood Bowl, in which they thanked the fans. The sequel is scheduled to begin shooting in New Orleans this Summer, with Hammerstone Studios producing.
The duo began their time-traveling escapades in 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, where Winters played Bill S. Preston Esq. and Reeves was Ted “Theodore” Logan, slacker best friends in San Dimas, CA, who’d rather play their guitars than do high school schoolwork. While struggling on an assignment on historical figures, a time-traveler named Rufus (played by George Carlin) arrives to send them on a journey though time to help them pass their History class. The adventures continued with 1991’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, where the dudes go to Hell, challenge Death, and face off against their evil robot selves.
Bill & Ted 3: Face the Music is written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who penned the original films, and will be directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest). In the new movie, the now middle-aged Bill & Ted are reportedly still working towards fulfilling their destiny of writing the greatest song ever when a visitor from the future arrives to warn them that only their music can save life as we know it. Which means, the guys are off on another excellent adventure, this time with their daughters along for the ride. No word yet on whether Eddie Van Halen will finally join the band.
Catch ya later, Bill & Ted!
