Christopher Nolan

Now that it’s clear that Christopher Nolan‘s untitled upcoming film isn’t North By Northwest meets Inception, as was previously reported, many of us are back to speculating as to what it could be about.

But one thing that we do know is that it will be an event film that is scheduled for a summer 2020 release. And as many of us wait to find out what the film could be about, reports of who will star in it have emerged. Multiple reports say that BlacKkKlansman star John David Washington, High Life star Robert Pattinson, and Widows star Elizabeth Debicki are poised to have roles in Nolan’s mysterious new film. More on the report below.

Warner Bros. made it clear that Nolan’s upcoming film won’t be North By Northwest meets Inception earlier last week. Although details are slim, Variety says Washington will have one of the lead roles in the film that is said to be “a massive, innovative, action blockbuster, which will again be shown in IMAX.”

Though that doesn’t give us much to go on, we know that Nolan has a penchant for shooting in IMAX, a format that gives audiences a truly immersive theatrical experience. So whatever he is filming, it will be big, and probably be best seen on IMAX screens.

Collider adds that Pattinson will play the other lead role. While he does join Washington, it’s unclear if he will be playing alongside Washington or opposite of him. The site adds that there is a rumor that the film could be some sort of sequel to Inception. But aside from his Dark Knight trilogy, an Inception sequel is probably not in the cards. But it would be exciting to see if it is one.

Meanwhile, Variety also says that Debicki will be joining the two as the female lead of the film.

The film is already coming around to be one of the most anticipated of 2020, and that’s on star power alone. All three actors are terrific, with Washington delivering a powerhouse performance in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKansman. Pattinson has come a long way since playing the sparkly vampire in the Twilight Saga films, having appeared in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis and Maps to the Stars. He also followed those up with Clair Denis’ High Life and Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert. Then there’s Debicki, who was one of the clear favorites in the heist thriller Widows. Her other credits include The Cloverfield Paradox, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Production on Christopher Nolan’s untitled film is slated to begin this summer for a July 17, 2020, release.
