WarnerMedia held a major press event yesterday to talk about their new streaming service HBO Max. We know that WB has made some major acquisitions in the past few months by buying the rights to shows like Friends and The Big Bang Theory for billions of dollars.
But that was merely the beginning for the media giant. Now we know much more that will come with the service, including popular DC film titles, South Park, Rick and Morty, and original titles as well. Check out what was revealed today.
HBO Max officially launches in May 2020, and will be priced at $14.99 a month. A decent price when you consider how stacked their content library will be. And there will be plenty of things to look forward to.
With HBO being in the streaming service name, we can expect to see titles from the premium cable network to appear on the service. Which includes shows like Westworld, Succession, Barry, Lovecraft Country, The Righteous Gemstones, and so much more. Additionally, they will be padding the service with some other WB franchises like The Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, The Conjuring, and The LEGO Movie. And that’s only the start, as every DC movie from the last 40 years will also be available. This includes Todd Phillip’s Joker, a recent a box office hit, which will be available when HBO Max launches.
And it’s not all about films. We know that in addition to Friends and The Big Bang Theory, there will be other TV series like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and South Park. But it isn’t all about existing content, either. There will be original titles as well. And episodes from Adult Swim shows will also be available to stream. So you can look forward to seeing shows like Rick and Morty, The Boondocks, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Robot Chicken, and Samurai Jack.
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai will be a new animated series from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment that will explore the origins of everyone’s favorite creature from the 1980s. As well as Tooned Out from Robert Zemeckis, which like Zemeckis’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit, will merge animation and live-action and feature a cast of Looney Tunes characters. And speaking of Looney Tunes, Bugs Bunny and his friends will be back with both original and new animated shorts.
Not only that, but HBO Max will also include the entire film slate of Studio Ghibli.
HBO Max will be entering the streaming wars well after Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and more have already started. Additionally, Disney+ and Apple TV+ will be launching their own services this coming November, and NBCUniversal will be launching their own service as well. Of course, these are only a few of the major ones that we know of. Others include Facebook, YouTube, and CBS All Access.
