The Six Million Dollar Man, Season Six #1 comes out thirty six years after the last episode aired. Firefly fans, don’t you EVER complain to me about waiting for a TV show to get picked up for another season. So, was it worth the wait?

Writer Jim Kuhoric manages to pack SO much from the both the television series AND the 1970s, it’s almost unbelievable. For a first issue, he spends VERY little time introducing characters and setting them up. He lets the television intro do that for him, and that gives us everything we need to get going. What he does include, is numerous mentions to the past history of the characters that were depicted in previous episodes, which is fun for those of us who remember and revisit the episodes, but it’s in no way, shape, or form off-putting to readers who are picking this up for the first time.

Comic Review: The Green Hornet #10

The Green Hornet #10 cover by Paolo RiveraThe Green Hornet #10

Letters by Troy Peteri
Covers by Paolo Rivera and Jonathan Lau
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: March 5, 2014
Cover Price: $3.99

The Green Hornet #10, while a really good comic, made me feel a little bad inside. A little broken-hearted. Why? Because it feels like things are wrapping up for this series (it ends with issue #13). But, that aside, this issue is pretty intense.

Mark Waid loves writing The Green Hornet. But, I think, this issue he loved writing the villains just a little bit more. This issue is VERY heavy on the battle between the bad guy “families” while the Hornet and Kato wait at the sidelines for them each to take out each other, then swoop in for the kill. Now, the story is MUCH more complex than that, obviously; there’s some great twists and turns and a FANTASTIC shock ending. All classic Mark Waid. And all VERY entertaining.

Release Date: March 5, 2014

Anyone who knows me know that I’m a HUGE Moon Knight fan. I’ve got every single issue from every single series that he was in. So, needless to say, I was more excited for Moon Knight #1 than anybody else on this planet. There was just one problem. I don’t usually like the writing of Warren Ellis.

Well, Warren Ellis proved me wrong with this book. He’s not writing like his usual self, and that threw me for a loop. Most often, when he takes on an already established character, he takes away everything that makes that character cool and spins him or her off in a totally different direction. Now, he does do that to some degree here, but he also leaves the core of who and what Moon Knight is. And, don’t worry, he even lets Moon Knight use his trademark crescent moon “moonarangs” or whatever they’re called. HE takes the character in a totally different direction than he’s ever been in before, but he makes it work and it somehow makes sense. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Letters by Rob Steen
Covers by Alex Ross and John Cassaday
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: February 26, 2014
Cover Price: $3.99

Doc Savage #3 is where this title REALLY gets going. Without even realizing it the first two excellent issues have, while we thought they had just been stand alone stories, set up a great story that really gets moving in this issue.

Author Chris Roberson really kicks things up a notch in this issue. The first two issues have each taken place in a different decade, and this one is no different. Taking place in the early 1960s, Doc is ready to reveal the secret of his longevity and seeming lack of aging. But, of course, some people don’t want that secret revealed; they want it for themselves and for their own personal gain. As if dealing with that wasn’t enough, an old enemy turns up to literally take away everything Doc holds dear to him.

Kings Watch #4 is the penultimate chapter in this modern day “Defenders of the Earth” reboot. And I have to tell you, even though I can’t wait for the next issue, I hope it NEVER comes out! Because then there won’t be anymore issues of this book to read.

About a month ago, people all across the United States could hear me scream when Dynamite announced an ongoing Flash Gordon series starting in April written by Jeff Parker. And it’s comics like THIS that made my scream for joy that loud. Right off the bat in this issue, he brings you up to speed on the characters, the villains, the immediate situation in the book, and the sense of urgency. From then on, it just gets better.
