You just cannot go wrong with a story about KISS, you know? But like peanut butter and chocolate, some things are even better with a pairing. This holds especially true in KISS/Army of Darkness #1. Entrusted with the power of The Destroyer, our fearsome foursome uses their power to protect mankind, rather than for destruction.

I think we can all remember our first concert/show, right? If you are an audiophile then I have no doubt you do. Well, KISS: The Demon #1 reminds me of my first show since the headliner was the aforementioned band KISS. Not only were they my first band to see live but, later on, they were the first group I ever went and saw without an adult.

So, to say they hold a special place in my heart is to understate things in an enormous way. The point is, I share that same feeling with the main character of this story, which is a prequel to the ongoing comic.

Red Sonja #100 is truly the definition of “jam packed”! Dynamite Entertainment has truly gotten the gang back together, and in doing so, we get just about every single kind of Red Sonja story that there is right here in this single comic. In this giant issue, you get sword and sorcery, horror, action, and even a little heartwarming drama. What’s not to love?

Consisting of five different stories, by legendary Red Sonja writers like Eric Trautmann, Roy Thomas, Michael Avon Oeming, Gail Simone, and Luke Lieberman, you get everything you want and more in this comic book. Roy Thomas pens a truly great old fashioned sword and sorcery tale with a hint of mystery. Current Red Sonja scribe Gail Simone writes a very entertaining story about Red Sonja finally meeting her childhood “idol.” Then there’s Luke Lieberman’s (Queen Sonja) story about Sonja, a companion, and a sorcerer that is thrilling, yet very heartwarming. Out of all five stories, there’s not a bad one in the bunch.

The Flash Gordon 2014 Holiday Special is a gift in itself. I mean, how many OTHER publishers put out Holiday specials this year? I believe Dynamite was one of only two. And what better character to get his own Holiday special than Flash Gordon? Sure, it would’ve been interesting to see a Holiday book from either The Shadow or Doc Savage or Red Sonja or even Battlestar Galactica, but in my opinion, the Flash Gordon universe offered the most opportunity story-wise, and the creative teams didn’t disappoint.
