| ‘The Grinch’: Listen To Tyler, The Creator’s New Version Of ‘You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” |

With a new movie based on Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! on the way, naturally we needed a new version of the song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” The man with the best name ever bestowed upon a child, Thurl Ravenscroft, sang the song for the classic 1966 animated special starring Boris Karloff as the voice of the title character. For Ron Howard’s 2000 adaptation star Jim Carrey sang the song himself. And now, a new version for a new generation. Despicable Me, Minions, The Secret Life of Pets, and Sing animation studio Illumination Entertainment has released a lyric video for their take on the song, performed by Tyler, the Creator, for the upcoming animated feature The Grinch starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character. We heard parts of the song used in the most recent trailer, and now you can hear it in full. Continue below for much more info on the movie and to listen to the song.

Crazy Rich Asians is truly one of the best films of the year. But you don’t need my review to convince you. The film blew past its box office expectations earning itself a $26.5 million dollar opening weekend, and $35 million dollars overall when it opened last Wednesday. It may have been 25 years since we’ve seen an Asian ensemble of this size in a mainstream rom-com, but it does prove that Asians can lead a film and subvert some of those Hollywood clichés. But that wasn’t the only thing that brought me to tears. Aside from Kina Grannis‘ cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” The Voice season 10 contestant Katherine Ho‘s cover of Coldplay’s “Yellow” left me a sobbing mess. And I don’t even like Coldplay. So how did director Jon M. Chu get permission to use that song – a song with a title that’s also a derogatory term towards the Asian culture – and how did Ho become the voice of a song that is considered to be an anthem? Check out the full story, Chu’s letter, and the song if you haven’t heard it below. Minor spoilers follow.

| Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin Has Died
Aretha Franklin, a pioneer of R&B and Gospel music and who rightly earned the title of Queen of Soul, died today at her home in Detroit after a battle with pancreatic cancer, according to CNN. She was 76. The death of Franklin signifies an end to a life that was rich and robust, as colorful and full of memorable musical art as the woman herself. For over six decades, the singer’s instantly recognizable voice stretched to the emotional stratosphere and she became a titan not only in music, but provided a soundtrack, especially in her early superstar years, for a turbulent civil rights movement that was just at its peak during the late 1960s.
