Spider-Man

Sony is zeroing in on a director for their brand new Spider-Man reboot. When we last reported on the news, the studio’s shortlist consisted of Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies, 50/50), Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre), Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), Theodore Melfi (St. Vincent), and the team of John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein (the Vacation reboot). That was just a few weeks ago, and now it appears that two of the directors are now in the running to helm the film.

A new report says that Levine and Melfi now top Sony’s shortlist of directors. It also says that the studio may settle on a new name that hasn’t appeared on the original shortlist. More on the story below.

A comedic animated Spider-Man film was first revealed after Sony’s private e-mails were leaked last year. These e-mails revealed that Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie, 21 and 22 Jump Street) would be involved in a creative capacity.

It would be months before an actual confirmation could be made, with the two playing coy during every interview opportunity. Sony is announcing that an Untitled Spider-Man animated film is in the works. Hit the jump for more.

Drew Goddard to direct Spider-Man

Three weeks ago, fans of the Spider-Man franchise who were less than enthused by its recent entries breathed a sigh of relief when the news broke that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios had finally worked out a deal that would allow for Peter Parker and his iconic super alter ego to appear in one of the upcoming features from Marvel as well as headline a new film that Marvel and Sony would co-produce. The deal was major enough to impact Marvel’s Phase Three release schedule, with four movies getting their release dates pushed back.

If Kellvin Chavez at Latino Review is to be believed, and that dude is rarely wrong, it looks as if the studios have already found their director for the next Spider-Man movie.

Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man

This deal just keeps getting better all the time. Disney has deep pockets, you’d think that Sony would ask the rival studio to pony up some cash to regain the rights to Spider-Man. Well, if you’re already thinking of a number in the billions, you might want to take it down all the way to zero.

Hours after it was announced that Disney would be “sharing” Spider-Man with Sony, details about the deal are being revealed. First up came info regarding when Spidey might make his Marvel debut, whether Andrew Garfield will still be playing the role of Spider-Man, and if the Sinister Six movie was still on or not.

Now new details have arrived, this time revealing some of the financial details of the deal and the status of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and other spinoffs like Venom. More on all of this after the jump.

Spider-Man Avengers Image

Last night the comic book world experienced a shake up when it was confirmed that Marvel and Sony made a deal to share Spider-Man. Marvel will not have full rights to the character, as Sony still retains the marketing and final creative control. However, studio head Kevin Feige will co-produce alongside Amy Pascal.

News of a “new Spider-Man” being introduced brought up a couple of questions about the current Spider-Man. The current franchise reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, has already had two films and launched potential spinoffs. The press release used the word “new” meaning that everything we have come to know about The Amazing Spider-Man and its potential spinoffs are moot.

But a new report suggests otherwise, and that some things are changing while others will remain the same. Hit the jump to find out more.
