Justice League

After confirming that David Goyer would come back to write the screenplay for Man Of Steel 2, and reportedly signed on to write Justice League, Goyer is making the final turn of the press rounds for Man of Steel, which opened in theaters this weekend. While most of us are ready for the return of the famed DC Comics hero, Goyer is slowly preparing for the sequel of the film and giving us small hints about Justice League.

The early signing only signals how confident Warner Bros. Studios is in Man of Steel, and because of that, not only are they putting the sequel and the Justice League film on a fast track into production, but they are also getting ready for other solo DC Hero films like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and more. Hit the jump for more details.

Hall of Justice

DC and Warner Bros. are desperate to get their Justice League into theaters by their projected release date of summer 2015, though so far the only confirmed details on the project is the studio’s assigning Will Beall (Gangster Squad) to write the script. The rest has been a riot of rampant speculation. Major filmmakers from Ben Affleck to Lana and Andy Wachowski have been linked to the director’s chair, but no one has been hired for the job yet. Darkseid has been rumored to be the film’s big bad cosmic villain.

As for which DC Comics superheroes will be part of 2015’s occupants of the Hall of Justice, so far it is a given that Superman and Batman will be leading the charge into whatever large-scale battle the filmmakers pit them against. The upcoming Man of Steel is said to play heavily into the build-up to Justice League with Batman possibly making a post-credits cameo, if those rumors turn out to be true. Besides those likely character choices, the remaining members of the team – and how many there will be – are still up in the air. But that looks to be changing.

Sinestro Bust

DC Entertainment announced on Wednesday that it would be altering its DC Direct action figure and collectibles line by rebranding as DC Collectibles.

DC Collectibles is doing a lot to expand its online presence most importantly by offering all of its products online through their official website, which launches in May. One reason why this is significant is that in its prior incarnation, DC Direct offered nothing as far as purchasing on the site. Customers were either to be redirected to separate sites, or given a list of retailers that carried DC Direct statues and action figures.

As most of you may know by now, DC Comics is relaunching their entire line of comics this Fall alongside a day and date digital comics initiative. What you might not know, however, is that it all started three weeks ago with the releases of the last issue of DC’s summer event Flashpoint, and the beginning of the new universe with Justice League #1. This Wednesday is the last big week of releases and I’m picking up a lot of these book, and there are still a lot of books to look forward to in these upcoming weeks, as well as plenty that you and I will probably want to stay away from for varying reasons. So, in the order of kindness and assignments from my editor, I will be breaking down each title with their creators, what they’re about, and what you can expect from each of the new books. And, guess what? I’m not in love with a lot of the decisions that they’ve made! So, this should be fun…

Well, DC Comics just won’t stop, will they? After a brutal couple of days of teasing the comic book fan universe with “new” and “exciting” steps into the “future” of DC Comics, on Thursday, June 2, 2011, they actually started rolling out some of the details about the upcoming “relaunch” of the DC Universe. And regardless of what I may or may not have said regarding the initial announcement, I can’t help but be excited about the second wave of DC Relaunch news. On Thursday, DC released the names and creators of 11 of the 52 new number one comics that are coming out in September, along with cover art, and those are as follows (with added commentary and how excited I am for each):

Justice League #1: Written by Geoff Johns, with art by Jim Lee. I mean, this is a bit obvious, isn’t it? We found out that this was coming on Tuesday, so it’s no surprise to see it listed here. Geoff Johns can handle teams, and who can argue with Jim Lee’s artwork? You can criticize his character redesigns, but there’s no doubt that this book is going to be a heavy hitter from front to back each month. Let’s just hope these two executives are able to give The Justice League the attention it deserves, so it won’t be plagued with delays. Yeah, yeah, I’ll buy it!
