Warner Brothers is readying a new ACME movie, which will be rooted in the classic animated Looney Tunes world, and they’ve hired the writers of X-Men: First Class to work on the screenplay.

Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, whose other credits include Thor, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Fringe (as well as other in development projects such as Top Gun 2 and Power Rangers), will work on the script, while I Love You Phillip Morris and Crazy, Stupid, Love directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are in talks to helm the movie.

Neal Moritz is best known for producing adrenaline-pumping action flicks for people with short attention spans who live on a steady diet of Jack Link’s and Red Bull, films such as the Fast and the Furious series and Battle: Los Angeles. He’s also been on a mission in recent years to remake all your favorite movies. If you go to Moritz’s IMDB page you’ll see his name attached as producer to remakes of Highlander, Escape from New York, Prom Night, Flash Gordon, Doc Savage, Battle Royale, and Total Recall. Now the veteran Hollywood producer is about to add another notch to the bat he uses to bash in the skulls of the classic films of my youth with a new version of Starship Troopers.

Paramount Pictures along with Skydance Productions is moving forward with their planned sequel to the 1986 action hit, Top Gun, which starred Tom Cruise as a cocky and talented young fighter pilot.

It’s being reported that Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have been chosen to write the screenplay for the planned sequel, and that the duo are currently in negotiations on a deal.

With X-Men: First Class becoming a shockingly successful bit of cinema this summer, the film’s writers have apparently moved on to big things.

Deadline is reporting that Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are heading to the small screen as writers for Fox’s newly announced drama series based on the Lev Grossman novel, The Magicians.
