Trials Band Photo 2015

What the Hell, man? I go on a short break for the holidays and first Lemmy from Motorhead dies and now I come back to find a press release announcing that one of the best metal bands in the world has basically called it quits.

Chicago’s Trials is among my very favorite bands of the current metal generation; I even went so far as to name their most recent album, This Ruined World, the number one album of last year in my Best Metal Albums Of 2015 article just a few weeks ago.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens 06

It’s time for my annual look back at my top 10 favorite movies of 2015. While I do write the occasional movie review, I don’t consider myself to be a “film critic,” but rather more of an enthusiastic movie watcher. I enjoy a lot of movies I watch, but not many becomes “favorites.” So, this list here is not my picks for the “best” films of the year; these are merely my favorite movies of 2015.

I do get to see a lot of films every year, and my criteria for a “favorite” typically is one that keeps me entertained and makes me want to see it repeatedly. There will be plenty of other “Best Of 2015” lists being published here at Geeks Of Doom in the coming days that will take a more analytical look at 2015’s films, and will likely include more serious dramas. But for now, with me, you’ll get more fun picks than anything else.

With that, here’s a list of my Top 10 Favorite Movies of 2015.

The Simpsons - Albums of 2015

I’ve been writing for Geeks of Doom since April 2008. In that time I have written about the occasional soundtrack release, but never before in my time or anywhere else have I attempted to write a list of the best new music I heard over the course of a year. Please bear with me, dear readers as I get into my picks for my Top 10 Albums of 2015.

Two years before I joined the Geeks writing staff, I was employed by my local Tower Records and Video. From the summer of 1999 to just a few days shy of Christmas 2006 when the nationwide chain shut down forever, I worked full time at Tower and loved almost every minute of my time there. Each day I was exposed to music from countless genres, and having that job deepened my appreciation of music I either dabbled in previously or was never exposed to at all. I was listening to a lot more rap, jazz, opera, bluegrass, gospel, and indie rock than ever before and developing a deeply emotional and intellectual appreciation for how each album was lovingly crafted and the unique history behind every song.
