Marvel Comics has made a few changes to their characters in the past few weeks. It first started out with revealing that Thor will be a woman. Series writer Jason Aaron emphasized, “This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.” Then it was announced that The Falcon would become the new Captain America. While these changes show how progressive the comic book giant can be, there was a lot of speculation on how the changes would impact the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially since many of the actors’ contracts will expire after The Avengers 3.

It would make sense to make these changes in the films to coincide with the changes in comics. But, wait just one moment. Like any adaptation, the films don’t always follow their source materials to the letter, and screenwriters and directors are always taking creative liberties with these comic book properties. That’s why Captain America 3 scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely say that we shouldn’t expect to see Falcon become Captain America in the next sequel, but they don’t want fans to give up hope on the idea either. Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will release their smash superhero sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier on multiple home viewing formats early next month. As a preview of what fans and potential buyers can expect from the extras that will be included, the studios have released two deleted scenes from the film.

The scenes are brief and their deletion from the final cut is understandable, but they do offer some fine additional moments with some of the film’s supporting cast and a small bit of action. Between the dual critical and commercial success of this and Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel has had one hell of a year.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier comes to Blu-ray, DVD, and Blu-ray 3D combo pack on September 9, 2014. Right now Amazon is only offering the film for sale on Digital HD for those who pre-order (the other formats are not up for pre-order yet).

Disney epitomizes branding at its best, using characters and stories across all types of platforms, from digital apps and toys to theme park attractions and virtual experiences. The company’s slate of films in the coming years reflect enhancing established properties and creating new ones in the process. Which Disney films are on their way to seeing sequels, and how can they continue the strength of the brand, as opposed to crippling the franchise?

Peter Pan would say that “faith, trust and pixie dust” would do the trick. We all know, though, that timing, effort and imagination are equally as important.

It just so happens that Captain America: The Winter Soldier came out on Iron Man and The Avengers star Robert Downey Jr.‘s birthday, and he made sure to take advantage of it.

The actor invited over a bunch of kids over for a big viewing party of the sequel, and perhaps a few older kids who were just as excited to be there as the younger ones.

Marvel is obviously pleased with Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s $300 million global box office gross this past weekend. The film was well-received by fans and critics alike, and now it’s time for the studio to look into the future, far ahead of its upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s May 1, 2015 release. While we have Ant-Man to look forward to, Captain America 3 will be one of the closing chapters of the solo hero films.

Marvel teased the idea of a May 6, 2016 release, and initially scheduled Captain America 3 to open the 2016 summer blockbuster season. Now they confirm that the sequel will indeed debut on that date.
