You know, I don’t think anyone has ever sent me an article of clothing to review before. But I can’t say that anymore after this, because Celebs Clothing was gracious enough to send me one of their Captain America Varsity Jacket for my very own! How cool is that? I always like receiving gifts (who doesn’t?), but when it’s from someone I’ve never met, that’s particularly awesome!

To be completely honest, they actually sent me a list of different jackets from which to choose. Batman, Deadpool, Suicide Squad, Superman, and more! But I’ve always wanted some Cap merch so I went with the red, white, and blue!

Make sure to check out the pictures here below of the jacket I tried out.

‘Captain America: Civil War’: A 12-Year-Old’s Thoughts

Movie Review: Captain America: Civil War, starring Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.

Captain America: Civil War is the 13th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The ongoing film series started back with Jon Favreau’s 2008 Iron Man, and has hit some incredible highs and some modest middles… honestly none of the films are bad, some just mildly disappointing. Directed again by the Russo Brothers (Captain America: Winter Soldier), the new film is the most challenging of the MCU thus far, asking the audience to choose sides over the Sokovia Accords, a treaty signed by hundreds of nations that would put the Avengers under the control of the UN. This is in response to all the past events in the series, but specifically an Avengers mission in Nigeria that stopped a sinister plot, but left many civilians dead. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is sick of watching his technology kill innocents, so he is firmly pro-Accords, whereas Captain America (Chris Evans) believes the whole point of the Avengers is to do what they feel must be done without interference. Things get more complicated when Cap’s old best friend and former brainwashed Hydra assassin Bucky, aka The Winter Soldier, (Sebastian Stan) is blamed for a terrorist attack.

Civil War marks the beginning of the MUC’s Phase 3, which includes a whopping 10 films, including standalones for Doctor Strange (November 2016), Spider-Man (July 2017), and Black Panther (July 2018), as well as sequels for Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy. By the time Phase 3 gets to the two-part climactic Infinity War saga in 2018-19, my son will be a 15-year-old high schooler. As for now, 12-year-old Brandon is obsessed with all things MCU. After seeing Civil War for a third time Thursday night, we got into a near hour-long Q&A about the film, the characters, and all things MCU. So I decided to track some of our talk in a little interview to give the pre-teen perspective.

Spoilers if you haven’t seen Captain America: Civil War yet…

“United we stand. Divided we fall.”

In 2011, Super Soldier Steve Rogers made his debut in Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Influenced by Raiders of the Lost Ark and Johnston’s own 1991 film, The Rocketeer, The First Avenger was designed as a ’40s adventure serial. 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, was a ’70s political thriller in the vein of Three Days of the Condor and All the President’s Men.

The Russos’ follow-up, Captain America: Civil War, is influenced by movies like The Godfather Part II and The Empire Strikes Back, sprawling sagas that tell intricate stories where every character has an arc. And like those enduring classics, Civil War is a gripping, emotionally resonant film that enriches and deepens a mythology and our connection to it. Its greatness lies in the groundwork laid by its predecessors; twelve films that comprise an unprecedented experiment in long-form storytelling, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
